What exactly are the differences? Does the director's cut include both Shadowrun Returns content plus Dragonfall? or just dragonfall?

It adds more options for the gamplay such as more sidequests, skills for party members and a much more streamlined combat system. As memory serves me the directors cut included dragonfall but I may be mistaken since its a long time since I purchased it

Did a search to find out about whether Dragonfall - Director's cut was both games or just the Dragonfall campaing only. Here's what I found:

Is the directors cut just Dragonfall or does it include Shadowrun returns as well?

Dragonfall "Director's Cut" does not include Shadowrun Returns. It's an updated version of the "Dragonfall" campaign, with gameplay fixes, additional content, and updated user interface. And yes, Dragonfall was a much better campaign (IMO) than "Returns."

You're right that there's not much point in buying Shadowrun Returns to play Dragonfall (since the standalone "Director's Cut" comes out soon). But I think Shadowrun Returns is well-worth playing on its own, if you're a Shadowrun fan. Yes, it was linear, and deckers didn't have enough to do, etc. But Shadowrun Returns is $15 U.S... if you like the idea of a Shadowrun CRPG, it's well worth the price of admission.

FYI if you get Shadowrun Returns, there is a user generated thing in Steam that lets you port your SRR character into Dragonfall.

I own the Directors cut (I backed SRR on Kickstarter what feels like ages ago), but haven't bothered to compare to SRR. I played through and greatly enjoyed SRR, so porting my character into Dragonfall was a no brainer for me.

Actually I have both of them already. I've been going through my library on Steam and was wondering what exactly what I might want to install. I decided to install everything (Shadowrun Returns, Dragonfall DLC, and Dragonfall Director's Cut).

I'm going to play through Shadowrun Returns, then through the Dragonfall DLC... and then I'll go through Dragonfall Director's Cut.

I'm going through Shadowrun because I want to check out the campaign they had for the base game.

I'm going through both the DLC version and the Director's Cut version to get a feel for the differences.
