So having been a lover of the weirder parts of the imperium such as the admech I was overtaken by shiny stuff syndrome and bought a box of skitarii to add to my steel legion army eventually. Thought it might help some people to share my thoughts after building them.
Firstly, I will stress how difficult it is to match all the legs and bodies together. The instructions are VERY vague about what legs match which bodies and do not stress how difficult it is to match each of the 10 combinations together, so spend extra time matching the legs and bodies up right and making sure you keep each one together during assembly, as you would with each weapon/arm combination. I will also mention that I would advise keeping the legs and bodies seperate until you paint the models because of how the robes obscure the legs, the legs are all single part so you can glue them onto a base and paint them easily enough and the bodies hold together well without legs, just dry fit to make sure your poses look right.
Other than that, the instructions are very good. They also have the unit profiles and cost in them, along with options (but no weapon profiles! bah!)
Now, parts:
You get 9 full sets of galvanic riles+arms (although one MUST be holding the data tether or omnispex) and 9 sets of rad carbines + arms. You also get 1 of each galvanic rifle and rad carbine "spare" with no arms or hands to hold it. This means that "out of the box" you will have some trouble assembling a squad of 10 with basic weapon options.
You get 1 of each special weapon available, and each special weapon has a corresponding arm and backpack (the plasma gun uses a normal backpack with an add-on piece and the arc rifles has its own specific backpack)
You get, including special weapon options, 12 backpacks
You get options for an omnispex and an enhanced data tether
You get 12 Ranger heads, 1 with the hood down, it looks pretty awesome, pretty much a skull with eye lenses attached to it
You get 13 Vanguard heads, 2 are the vanguard alpha head with the "crest" thing, and two have no helmet, looks kind of like a space marine head with a bit more "cyber"
You get 1 of each pistol and close combat weapon option
As far as assembly goes, all the pieces fit very well together, I had a lot of noticeable mould lines on my pieces but nothing over the top that a knife and file couldn't fix. The only issue with fitting was that the robes have a slight gap where the front and back body piece goes together but these are easily filled. One word of warning is to be careful removing robe and backpack pieces because some have very thing rope/wire bits hanging off that are attached by a large tag to the sprue and very easily bent or snapped.
The small transfer sheet seems concise but useful
All in all a pretty nice kit, the models look very nice. Not alot of spare parts for the price if you compare it to the tac squad but as a dual kit I guess you can expect that. The leftover heads you have will fit on space marine bodies comfortably and I would imagine guardsmen too. I am considering using the leftover vanguard parts I have to make a squad of cadian based tech thralls.
Think thats all I can say at the moment, any questions and Ill try my best to answer! Cheers!
