Hi there,

I wanted to show some models from my Khorne "Daemonkin" army. Definitely more to come in the future.

WIP picture in spoiler.

That Lord of Skulls is AWESOME!!!
You really captured the most awe-inspiring parts of the "Forbidden Planet" and "Day the earth stood still" posters, while giving me the sense of spine-tingling anticipation I get flipping through old Heavy-Metal magazines!
Definitely the coolest mini I've seen in quite some time.
The twin-toes, fused waist+chest, ribbed thighs+arms, hole in the head, shoulderplate... man, everything about this screams amazing to me!
P.S. Paintjob is wicked too -- the layered reds really complement the bulk of the mini very well.

Some amazing work, love the black to red contrast.

Not feeling the lord of skulls tbh, and I think the defiler would look so much better without the Silver horned head.

seconded..the head looks odd stuck there. and the LoS seems too...smooth? maybe? needs more to him i think..rivets on the armour, more iconography on the armour, pipes, tubes, skulls etc..just something to interrupt all the smoothness.

I've heard that criticism before, about the Defiler head. I just don't happen to agree with it, perhaps I'm just weird like that.

As far as the Lord of Skulls goes, I definitely see where you're coming from about the smoothness. I might add some more stuff to it in the future, but I'm not a professional sculptor by any means. This was more or less my first jab at it. It took me forever to get to this point, I just wanted to get started on the painting already.

But glad to hear there's some stuff that people enjoy. I'll keep the thread updated.

I'll leave you with this:

Love the defiler spider, great work.
Not keen on the LoS being really honest, dosent fit the aesthetic overall but its original

The flame effect on the hellbrute shoulder pads is awesome. Nice work, when I see cool Khorne armies it always makes me want to start one!

In game, it's a Daemon Prince. I couldn't really use the original model for what it was intended, because I'm using distinctly different looking models as Helbrutes. So he wouldn't fit in. You'll get to see those once they're done.

Ratius wrote:Not keen on the LoS being really honest, dosent fit the aesthetic overall but its original

Oh, well, I'm still pleased with him I will say that, aesthetic wise, he was supposed to be more in line with the regular marines than with the Daemons or Daemon Engines. Created in their own likeness sort of thing.

Nice work on the red.

The Lord of Skulls is growing on me... Initial reaction was that it's a little toy-like, but the more I look at it the cooler it gets, in a retro sort of way.

A little more detail on your bases would help make the bigger stuff look even better

Baymax! Love the cell painting style and the conversions, not a fan of the LoS I'm afraid.

So after processing some of the criticism regarding the scratch-built 'Lord of Skulls' (see first post), I decided to give this model another look.

I knew it had a couple of problems, but I didn't want to take the whole model apart to fix them. However, one thing led to another and...

See the spoiler for a couple WIP pictures.

Great re-work. Personally I liked the original too, but this guy fits the theme more.

He's very "The Day the Earth Stood Still" (very imposing/menacing in an unspoken kind of way).

Truly epic work

TheEyeOfNight- I swear, this thread is 70% smack talk, 20% RP organization, and 10% butt jokes
TheEyeOfNight- "Ordo Xenos reports that the Necrons have attained democracy, kamikaze tendencies, and nuclear fission. It's all tits up, sir."
Space Marine flyers are shaped for the greatest possible air resistance so that the air may never defeat the SPACE MARINES!
Sternguard though, those guys are all about kicking ass. They'd chew bubble gum as well, but bubble gum is heretical. Only tau chew gum

Much, much better than before. Really needed the iconography and ridges it used to look like a children's oversized power ranger toy or something.
Now just fix the axe! It too looks too smooth- doesn't really look at all tainted by the stuff of chaos!

Consider this another vote for loving the re-work. The small tweaks and all the brass really fit the aesthetic of everything else. Beyond that, it's an amazing sculpt, and incredibly impressive.

I can't help but think it need more skulls, though... heh.

Fantastic stuff. Can't believe no one's given a shout for the flier (Heldrake?)

The Lord of Skulls is definitely improved since the re-work.

Great stuff.

I thought the original looked pretty cartoony and I didn't think it really fit with the rest of your models, but this update is absolutely brilliant. Overall, really awesome stuff here!

Great blog!

Say, that LOS, was it built entirely from scratch? Or is there an action figure somewhere underneath all that armour?
Very cool nonetheless!

An action figure was the initial inspiration for starting the build and I used it as a base at first, but after many alterations there wasn't much left of it at the end. Expect for the hands. Those come from the action figure: Toy Story's Emperor Zurg, who had been sitting in my shed for about 15 years at that point.

(not the actual figure)

If you look at the original model in the OP, you might also notice that I used the triple-barrelled gun to create the reactor thing on its back.
