Has anybody tried this, or it is absolute Gak?

The thing about 40k is that no one person can grasp the fullness of it.

It's doable. You just need a sharp exacto and a steady hand.

It'll work. How well it works depends on your skill. As a test piece, I did a custom chapter icon on a shoulder pad by cutting out the (tiny!) shape in styrene, then engraved the internal lines with a square burin. I've also engraved directly onto plastic models to sharpen up panel lines and hose ribs that were marred during cleanup. Styrene takes scoring/scribing/engraving rather easily.

Just remember - that harder you press, the more likely you are to slip or wobble off your intended line. Also remember that dull blades require more pressure to cut. Use a sharp blade and a light touch! You can always make another pass.

Do you have any sketches? Could you share your design?

It will be easier to advise.

Anyway - what oadie said. One thing I could add - GS mixed 30% blue and 70% yellow - create few small blocks and reduce them to desirable shape.

Be patient and be careful with knife
