the spoilered image is from a newly released textbook, I had a professor friend show it to me. I don't put much weight in the opinions of textbook editors since they're usually a bunch of donkey-caves, but I'm really astounded to find something so inaccurate, and inherently sexist being taught to the children in this country as if it were factual.
I want to know what the rest of Dakka has to say about this. I'm personally pretty upset over it, but let's keep this thread civil.

So, you believe that it's factual that a culture that separates itself on gender roles is inherently masculine, while a culture without said gender roles is somehow feminine?
You see the problem in that reasoning, right?
EDIT:
Replace "Masculine Culture" with Sexist Culture, and "Feminine Culture" with Egalitarian Culture and it works just fine. As it appears in the text, the segment is sexist and inaccurate.

only if you get hung up on the terms masculine and feminine. that has been the sociological definition of culture for the better part of a century. The explanation of the use of those terms appears to be written just above and just below where the image has been cropped. Now Im not saying that the term masculine/feminine is the best to use, because it isnt, but the post kinda reeks of SJW-ness.

The bolded part is the most factual statement shown.
That the defining traits of humans based on sexuality are almost universally agreed is factually incorrect.
It is perplexing that cultures that emphasize gender division are referred to as masculine while less gender concerned are called feminine. Perhaps this is a historical definition? Patriarchal societies by and large are the majority and absolutely do care about gender separation for society and the opposite attitude takes the leftover name? I dunno.

Yes, I can spot the problem. It's where panties get in a bunch because someone referred to the existence of separate gender rolls.

Hmm. "Some cultures expect..." is the pivotal phrase as to whether this is actually sexism wrapped in education, or fact wrapped in inelegant phrasing.
My personal understanding and expectations of gender aside, I can't get angry at "some people believe [x]" in a text book.
If it followed up with, "and this widely accepted view is correct", I might start querying the state of my jimmies. But laying out that people have a viewpoint?

This should have been the very last comment, as it's basically all that is relevant.
