So this is the first model I've painted in 5 years. I'm loving it atm, it's a lot of fun to paint again! Here is some pictures of the model I've painted:

I think the model is too dark, but I guess it's OK enough.
Positive and constructive comments appreciated!

I think a great step to work on is edge highlighting, I also thing that would bring the overall colour of the model up a bit.
Otherwise it is a solid looking model. I wish my flesh looked half as good.

Wow, looking very good! I like it, but I like dark color schemes.
What you could try is some light drybrushing or highlighting on his skin and the red leather to brighten up the model.
Alternatively, this is a great reference. He details how often its best to contrast models with an opposite base, so dark model = light base. This is what I would suggest. Put him on some snow or some light-colored sand and he will really stand out!

Thank you for the compliment on my flesh! Ye, I've tried to highlight the edges on the weapon, but I've never done it before, so I'm not very good at it. Also, I have a limited option of paints, I'm gonna buy more tomorrow. And ye, that's my problem at the moment in my opinion. The models are a little too dark. I guess highlighting would help. I've also looked at dry brushing, but I don't understand it fully. Automatically Appended Next Post: jreilly89 wrote:Wow, looking very good! I like it, but I like dark color schemes.

Ye, I haven't done the base yet. Thank you for the link! I think drybrushing will be the thing for me, I still have 19 more cultists to paint. Highlighting would take a lot more time than drybrushing, that's what I've heard atleast. Do you know of any good link/video that shows how to drybrush?

Overall, I think the paint job looks pretty good. Some advice would be:
Make sure you thin your paints (though your paints don't look too thick)
Be consistent on things - it looks like from the back, the leather straps are different colors (brown and black).
Edge highlighting - this is great for making sharp constrasts
Drybrushing the metal areas - take a flat brush and put a little paint on the tip. Wipe most of the paint off on a piece of paper or towel. Go over the area - when you dry brush, it makes the stuff that sticks out get faint highlights. Its great to use on metals because it gets the rivets, and anything that sticks up just a bit.
What I do like:
The flesh and hair look great.

Thanks for the comment!
If I am to drybrush the Red on his cape, and the metal on the weapon, do I use a brighter colour? I use Leadbelcher on the weapon, but I have another brighter metal colour - should I use this to drybrush with?

UPDATE:

Tried to "highlight" on the red cape. Don't know if it's working. The red/orange might be too bright.
UPDATE 2:
Painted a new cultist! I'm really happy about this guy's cape.

The back of the hood on the new cultist looks really nice with the highlights, I would suggest that you watch the tutorial on painting cultists that GW has done, it's quite good: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n6BxIDnaFZA

Thanks for the link!
That's the colour theme i'm going for. I mostly use red robes, and mechanical grey for other robe parts. I'm still having a struggle on flesh. It always get's messy.
