Hello, I have a quick rules question if you wouldn't mind helping. It regards the Occular Augmetics upgrade for Imperial Knights found in the Horus Heresy Book 4.

"The knight has the Night Vision special rule and may re-roll results of 1 on the vehicle damage table and Destroyer Weapon Attack table which are inflicted by their shooting attacks at a range of 12" or less."

Is it correct to assume that this upgrade allows for re-rolls on results of 1 on the vehicle damage table if the knight scored a penetrating hit with a shooting attack within 12" of its target, and also allows re-rolls of 1 on the destroyer weapon attack table when the knight attacks with its destroyer weapon in melee (accepting the re-roll results as usual and with no further re-rolls etc in both cases)?

The destroyer weapon in melee is clearly not a shooting attack...

and yes, there are no ranged destroyer weapons available for knights... yet... FW have been known to future proof thier rules

So is my assumption on the rule correct then?

No. Close combat attacks are not shooting attacks.

This is how i read the rule. No one would gather that the upgrade is geared towards a nonexistent knight shooting D weapon...

Actually, the upgrade specifically states that it is geared towards some "nonexistent knight shooting D weapon" since it specifically only functions on shooting attacks.

Okay troll. I'll ask the source of the rule. Reminds me why dakka is only good for pics.

The source of the rule is Horus Heresy book 4.

I really don't understand your hostility - the rule is quite clear and unambiguous: it only applies to shooting attacks.

Why in all the coldest corners of hell would FW give knights a 10pt upgrade that does nothing and pertains to weapons that don't exist? And who in their right mind would support such a thought?

My post is really just suggesting that the rule should have been broken up into an extra sentence or two.

It doesn't do nothing; it gives the knight Night Vision (knight vision? ) and re-rolls on the vehicle damage table.

As for changing the rules? Sure, do as you will. But RAW is perfectly clear.

RAW is obvious here, highlighted key part-

"The knight has the Night Vision special rule and may re-roll results of 1 on the vehicle damage table and Destroyer Weapon Attack table which are inflicted by their shooting attacks at a range of 12" or less."

Is the knights D weapon a shooting attack?

If yes, re-roll that 1. If no, you can't re-roll the 1.

Its called future proofing, they may bring a knight out with a volcano cannon or something, OR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! just give the upgrade to another unit that has a D weapon or some such.
