Good day everyone! As mention in title, what is the actual difference in having your bolt pistol replace by a chainsword on a Ravening Attack Bike?
Any model can replace his bolt pistql with a chainsword . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . ... . . . . .. . . .. . . . .free

I don't see why someone would use his pistol because bike are relentless so you will fire the Twin-linked Boltgun attached to the bike instead of the pistol. And a single chainsword without pistol doesn't give extra CC attack. Am I missing something???

We just had another thread like this a day or two ago. That's what you swap for Special or Melee weapons. Otherwise you couldn't grab a Meltagun or Powerfist. Some weapons require a melee weapon to be swapped out and a pistol isn't a melee weapon.

I may be remembering it wrong but don't chainswords actually have an ap value in this addition? I thought I remember them being more than just close combat weapons.

See pics of my Orks, Tau, Emperor's Children, Necrons, Space Wolves, and Dark Eldar here:

They don't have an AP value. Just a basic CCW.

You're remembering wrong. Chainaxes have an AP value, but those are only available to Khorne Beserkers I think.

The option is there so people who have modelled their models with chainswords don't have to break them - it's for rule of cool. Unlike Codex: Space Marines, Ravenwing Bikers don't need to swap a melee weapon to get a special weapon.

No, chainswords do not have AP, they are entirely meaningless in this edition as well.

Dark Angels ~ 7350pts (about 5800 painted);
Ultramarines ~ 4700pts (about 2700 painted);
Imperial Knights ~ 1300pts (about 800 painted);
Skitarii and Mechanicum ~ 2000pts (about 1800 painted);
Assassins ~ 850pts;
Tyranids ~ 2000pts

Well they do have an AP - AP-

There may be instances where you want to shoot first then charge in, but take a lower risk of doing too much damage. So yo ufire 1 shot not 2 TL shots.

Chainswords have same profile as CCW. So they are for looks only.

Another reason maybe to make model of Vet. Sgt Arion from Dark Vengeance a legal model for TT games. The same reason Champion from vanila SM codex can take Power Sword and CCW replacing his Bolt Pistol.

That make total sense, thank you! Seem like a failsafe in that case, since it's written (p.91 of DA codex)

weapon with one of the following:

So you won't ever need to replace a chainsword for a weapon, as you can direcly replace the pistol. But thanks all for the answers, I was just making sure I wasn't missing something before I glue my models haha. I will put a chainsword on my sergeant just for style then
