So I have recently acquired $1000 from a bet with a (semi) drunk freind while wargaming. And have decided to use this money to help build my puny Dark Eldar army

What I have now

-Archon
-4 incubi
-20 Kabalite warriors
-15(ish) wyches
-talos
-venom
-raider

What now, what should I get? I have composed this idea of a purchase, but an order so large requires A LOT of though with my current budget

Wych Cult Shardstorm box (I want the transports, succubus, and reavers, the wyches have nice bits, for the reavers or the succubus if I want a cool looking model)

VoidRaven (awesome)

Razorwing jetfighter (fun looking)

3 raiders (good, I need more)

Haemoculus covens supplement. (formations)

2 boxes of wracks(Scapel Squadrom)

10 mandrakes(I like yelling SHADOW MONSTERS at my flgs)

2 venoms

3 grotesques

1 box of scourges

Urien Rakarth

Lelith Hersperax

and 2 of the new citadel crusade boxes.

Wadda think, I want your awesome opinions before I spend so much. I mainly play for fun, so whats fun?

DE are fun. Ok so the Shardstorm box is great value. Covens is awesome and Scourges are great.

The book has great internal balance so anything you buy, except maybe hoards and hoards of wyches, will be usable. The real question is what type of army do you want to build. DE has three real options. A kabalite shooting army with lots of warriors in raiders or venoms, ravangers and focuses on drowning you opponent in tones of small shots. A wych cult army that focuses on lightning fast, but fragile unites that can blitz across the board. Or you can build a coven army of close combat monsters that hit like a ton of bricks and are a pain to take down, you will want the coven book to really power them up.

Of the options, the coven is probably the strongest, and possibly the funnest to build if you like converting. But nothing says you can't just build and play with whatever you want.

Here are a few things to consider.

Grotesques are our strongest close combat fighters.
Scourges are our best anti-tank.
Talos are our most defensive unit.
ravangers are our most mobile.
Venoms are the best option for poison shots.
Razorwings are the best at clearing out hoards.

You should probably invest in a Kevlar vest in case your friend decides he wants his money back...

9-10 Grotesques. Thank me later. First thing I would buy is those and some Raiders to carry them in.

Note about getting the case: unfortunately, DE are the hardest army to transport. After reading reviews from other dakkaians, it seems like the new GW cases would not be a good choice to transport DE. Since you have the money, it would probably be worth it to get a custom case. I'm sure there are plenty of people on this site who can direct you to specific manufactures and cases.

Add the covens homunculi to the Wyches. Gives them both PFP tables, and the 5+ cover save minimum for the real space raiders detachment. With a chronos nearby, they become much harder to put down! ( they'd have a rerollable 5+ against small arms fire and if your opponent is shooting bigger guns than that at them, you're winning!)

Not exactly. Only models with the rule benefit from it and only from their own chart in most fo the cases.

The biggest pain in transporting them from what I've seen with a friend of mine was that the sails would come off or break constantly (since they sit high above the model). He started magnetizing them so he can take them off for transport.

uggg, I had a KR multicase for my Space marines, and really didn't like it, It was very expensive for the very specific models that I would be transporting, and although I have the money, it is not something I would like investing it in, I have looked into battlefoam, but it seems like the problem remains.

And response to Great White: He bet me I couldn't shave my head bald, so I did, gave the hair to cancer, now I have a bald head and $1000

I'm going to go out on a limb and say you had long metal-style hair before you shaved it

To answer the question, Scourges and Grotesques are a good place to start

What I've found with wyches is that they simply aren't a unit you take for their killing power. You take them for their ability to tarpit very specific threats. Anything with a low number of scary attacks should be considered a viable target for them. What I've been doing with them is eschewing wych weapons (the points go toward the hekatrix who has earned her right to stay in my list despite not being points effective by past acts of badassery.) The wyches generally go into a venom because it makes up for their lack of offensive punch and is easy to hide. A raider is used if I have the points to bring a larger squad. The raider is generally given a night shield so that I can simply hurl the transport across the board turn 1 and assault turn 2 if that seems like a good idea that game.

The wyches disembark and eat overwatch for the incubi or court of the archon I have hanging out with them. The hekatrix generally challenges any character in the enemy squad to keep nasty power weapons away from my incubi, and the incubi do all the real work.

If wyches could apply their 4+ against shooting or if they had a way to get furious charge sooner, they'd be fine. As is, they just lack the necessary punch until turn 4. That said, a cheap hekatrix with haywire grenades is actually a pretty solid answer to walkers. Her friends tank the return attacks, and she whittles down the walker's hull points.

ATTENTION
. Psychic tests are unfluffy. Your longing for AV is understandable but misguided. Your chapter doesn't need a separate codex. Doctrines should go away. Being a "troop" means nothing. This has been a cranky service announcement. You may now resume your regularly scheduled arguing.
