Hey folks, this is my first time posting on this site. I'm working on a list of Nids and wouldn't mind some insight. I'm a relatively new player so any suggestions might not be something I can accomplish(since I don't own every good Nid model there is)

But here is my list

HQ
Flyrant with twin-linked Devos and Norn Crown
Flyrant with twin-linked Devos

Elite
1 Venomthrope
1 Zoanthrope for some more synapse
1 Zoanthrope for some more synapse

Heavy
1 Biovore (would like one or two more eventually)
1 Carnifex with Regeneration, Adrenal Glands and Twin Linked Devos. (I think what I run on him is worth since the devos give him some decent kill potential until he can run up to a vehicle and kill it.
I also think regen is worth on him because he doesn't always die in one turn like non-flying tyrants. But let me know what you think)
1 Mawloc with Regen but not sure if that is worth

Troops
3 Warriors with nothing but a Barbed Strangler for more synapse
15 Hormagaunts with Adrenals
15 Hormagaunts with Adrenals
15 Termagaunts with Devourers and Toxin Sacs (although I might take sacs out since I just recently got Genestealers)
15 Termagaunts with Devourers and Toxin Sacs
8 Genestealers with Adrenals

Currently the list is 1788 don't know if I want to try and bring it down to 1700 or bring it to 1800.

I've only been playing for a few months now and my biggest threat is my friend who plays necrons. I used to win 50-50 with him but after the new codex I haven't won once. Other armies at my store I seem to win more often than not.

Not bad. Now some preaching You want to put Thorax hives on anything that can take them, that means the Tyrants. A general "rule" for Tyranids is that it is a better idea to avoid upgrades, and buy more figures instead. So you have way too many points tied up in upgrades, that are very unlikely to pay off.

If you pull off all the excess Glands, and the Regen( and the Norn Crown) you have a boatload of points to spend. So once you decide to expand your collection, that's where to find the points. My suggestion for your next purchase is a second Dakkafex (Carnafex) It will add a lot of power, at a reasonable cost.

Another way to expand would to purchase 2 more Biovors, an Exocrene, and a second Brood of Warriors (with a Venom Cannon) for a "Living Artillery Node" That will also free up a Heavy slot, so you can split the Dakkafexen, or add a second Mawloc. Lots of Options.

Necrons are now insanely durable. So consentrate on Volume of fire (Brain Leeches) and Mawlocs. Biovore would be usefull as well, so you're on the right track. Dropping Glands and adding bodies lets you add Durability, so you can Contest objectives with your own hard to kill Objective Secured Troops.

Thank you pinecone for your reply. I suppose I could try getting rid of the upgrades for a lower point list. Maybe then if my Necron foe has to match my lower point value while I taking only things that matter I will stand a chance(since we have no set value, just whatever you want to run in our league). Adding more bodies currently is not an option since that is all the models I have. But if I do add more bodies would Gaunts be a good choice or more Stealers?

I just traded away about $160 worth of magic cards for a box of Venomthropes and a box of Stealers and bought a Mawloc so that will probably be it for a little while. Living Artillery Node is worth it though? I'll have to keep that in mind.

As for Necrons. I feel like concentrating my Flyrants shooting would be more worth directing towards his ghost ark or any other vehicle he might bring. Flyrants seem to usually kill or bring them down to one hull point in one shooting phase. But I could also see directing it towards Lych Guard or Immortals also being worth to take out their objective scoring units.

Also what are thorax hives?? I don't see them on battlescribe

Yeah, I feel your pain, This is an expensive hobby. Playing at a lower point value sounds like the way to go then.

The Thorax biomod is 10 points for a Template. I always use the Electro grubs S5 AP 5 Haywire. One of our only reliable anti armor attacks. Put it on Both Tyrants, you will (almost) never regret it.

Winged Tyrants are mobile enough to do all that, so first kill the easy stuff, then take out the hard ones. Kill enough easy stuff and you can ignore the hard ones. If you can, use your Haywire Template to hit multiple targets (like multiple armored vehicles ) it also ignores cover.

Sadly in the current rules Stealers are "not optimal" they cost a bunch, and are fragile as heck to shooting. So as time goes on, you may find yourself using them less and less. At lower point games they can still be useful, and maybe in a Formation. I posted a "concept" list called "Stealer Shame" you might take a look at.

For basic "Gribblies" I like Hormagaunts, but Termagants are just as good. It depends on "style". I use Gaunts as a screen for my Big Bugs, so I need the blazing speed of Hormagaunts.

My basic use is what I call a "Bug Star" a Big Bug (Tyrannofex, Dakkafex usually) a Brood of x15 Hormagaunts, a source of Synapse (Warrior Brood, or a Zoey) and a Venothrope for a source of Shrouding. Most of the fire goes at the scarey Big Bug, who gets an enhanced Cover save, so the gribblies often stay intact.

You might give it a try. I like the "synergy", I run one at low points, and two at higher point games. One of my favorite "Big Bugs" is a Tyrannofex, Acid Spray, and a Thorax hive. 185 points for two Templates one has Torrent, one Haywire in a W6 T6 2+ save monster. And the cover save will help vs massed Anti-armor fire. Vs heavy armor saves the Shredder Beatles may do better for you, but I am happy with Electro grubs because of Walkers and vehicles are always around. If you have points left over adding Adrenals to it will increase the pressure on the foe.

Good luck! And welcome to the Hive Mind!
