Based on your explanation I think you could make it work

TheEyeOfNight- I swear, this thread is 70% smack talk, 20% RP organization, and 10% butt jokes
TheEyeOfNight- "Ordo Xenos reports that the Necrons have attained democracy, kamikaze tendencies, and nuclear fission. It's all tits up, sir."
Space Marine flyers are shaped for the greatest possible air resistance so that the air may never defeat the SPACE MARINES!
Sternguard though, those guys are all about kicking ass. They'd chew bubble gum as well, but bubble gum is heretical. Only tau chew gum

A few egyptian details that come to mind:

-They shaved themselves all over, because lice, or fleas, were a very common issue. To compensate, they used wigs. That could be worked into a hedonistic angle, showing clean and oiled patches of skin, and ridiculous/fabulous/overdone wigs on the ones without helmet (bare arms and long wavy hair like Magnus himself perhaps); showing a model more worried in using his giant (razor/khopesh) blade to shave his own face/shoulder than attacking the enemy.

-The above was related to difficulties of bathing regularly in such hot climate. Those that could afford it, would have some kind of perfume, like waxy mixtures of ambar, myrrh and fat in their wigs, giving off that thick, sweetish stench that could be as overpowering as too much sweat. Some kind of naeusous mist hanging around a few? It also could drive their enemies into euphoria?

-If having mutated animal heads is too much, their helmets could be styled as such. Some stargate mooks had cool helmets.

-Linen was a fine fabric for egyptians, perhaps white linen robes over their armor, resembling the drapery of greek sculptures. Linen is made from flax, and raw flax looks like golden hair, which may be associable with the wig thing.

10/10 love seeing Slaaneshi armies that aren't sex and depravity!

The androgyny of Shaved Egyptians can be played on a lot as well as the opulence of life, lots of golden bling and stuff added here and there. would love to see it!

An Egyptian themed Slaaneshi army can work just fine. Just make sure that it looks different enough that people know it's not just Thousand Sons painted pink or purple.

40k is 111% science.

Glad you liked it. I sugest "tyrian purple" because that was the blingiest color there was. Gold is a given, Egypt was filthy with gold. Vivid green/blue may be used to represent the Nile's fertility, but it's a stretch. I know I used greek sculpture as an example, but for the egyptian look you're going for, I think older. Like, Sea Peoples-older.

The "common sense Greece" was quite after "common sense Egypt", which was around in Illiad times. Some of the bronze breastplates and shoulderpads from the Illiad period resemble "too-bulky-to-use" power armor, at least to me. Google "Dendra Panoply". Egyptian soldiers also had linen armor, skirts, and "waist shields", which look just ornamental, but balls are balls right?

This site may help:

http://www.salimbeti.com/micenei/index.htm

Although focused on "bronze age greeks", has lots of pictures from egyptian and near-eastern equipment, some of which is already Slaneesh/egyptian-looking.

(nipple cuirass for Emprah's sake, I guess shame hadn't been invented yet)

Finally, about the smooth X chaos-esque, perhaps it could work if the models/armor/clothing were smooth and lavish, but decorated with drunk cuneiform, or simply some agressive chaos runes. If executed well, the engraving/carving could contrast with the clean look of the armor.

When you start, please show! I'm curious myself to see how it goes.

PS: will there be any fluff? Like, space marines already revere their primarchs, those guys could go into creepy, full-on idolizing of Magnus, and fall towards Slaneesh through it?

As for alternative minis, I suggest

both have a non-Thousand Sons Egyptian feel!

My secret fortress at the base of the volcano!

You may be able to mix in some bits from the Tomb Kings line (shields, khopeshes, and so forth). You probably don't want to buy an entire box of skeletons just to raid the sprues for bits, so I'd suggest checking out ebay. There are vendors there who sell individual bits off of sprues, many of them with a set "buy it now" price so you won't get in a bidding war over a khopesh.

Emperor's Eagles (undergoing Chapter reorganization)
Caledonian 95th (undergoing regimental reorganization)
Thousands Sons (undergoing Warband re--- wait, are any of my 40K armies playable?)
