In the new DKOK armylist the Conqueror Leman Russ showed up again. At 115 points you get a Fast Russ with a S8,AP3 blast cannon. Now I have used the conqueror in my last couple of games, mostly in sets of two, and really start to like this tank.
Use it like you would use a regelur Russ and it is no good, but pay them fast and they are awesome. I use them to provide cover for my Death Riders and then pierce the enemy lines and either blast away at the enemy infantry with flamer and cannon, or the rear of their vehicles. In maelstrom games them,being fast is a good thing as well, just tankshock the enemy off of an objective and claim it with your conqueror.

What are your thoughts on the conqueror?

Are they ordnance? That makes a big difference.

Nope, Conqueror Cannons are Heavy. They also come with a coaxial Stormbolter, which effectively makes the Conqueror cannon TL at 24". The only "downsides" of the main weapon of the LR Conq is that the gun is "only" 48" of range, and that it's a small blast.

Given, however, that the vehicle is a Fast AV14/13/10 chassis that can also take sponson guns, I'm doubtful of that being much of an issue- the main selling point really is how mobile it is and the ways it can be combined with the aforementioned Death Riders.

Does it say that they're S8 ap3 in the Vraks book?

Because it says the Conquerer cannon is S7 AP4 small blast in IA1 2ed

Yes, it does say it is 48" S8 AP3 in the Vraks book. Which makes a difference.
Didn't notice the co-axial stormbolter before btw.

Does it count towards the two weapons which can be fired at cruising speed, or us it 'part of' the Conqueror cannon?

Yes, they can. However sponsons look ugly on a Russ

It is a separate weapon.

Screw the cannon - that can be a weapon you fire when moving 6". 135pts for 2MMs on a fast av14/13/10 3hp platform! Can a tank commander go in one?

DKoK do not have a tank commander option. Unfortunately the LR Conquerors in other IG lists have not been given the update and are still terrible.

Awww, more ok than awesome then. Still - 4 mms on a squadron of 2 would be pretty nasty.
