When exactly do you take Look Out Sir rolls?

I have an opponent that will roll an armour save on his Warlord (Lias no less) and if it fails, will try and LoS it to another member, but I've always thought that you would LoS first and then if you pass LoS you take the best save of the model that is now being wounded. Lias and the unit he is normally with usually have a 2+ save, either armour or cover

Really confused on how this works, especially with multiple saves within a unit

My understanding is you allocate a wound to the character then look out sir then do the save.

The rulebook is very clear you do LOS! before saves.

LOS is first, If the saves are the same for a bunch of models, some people will for ease roll all the saves together then LOS after. but that is a House Rule.

But if the saves are different, always LOS first as per Rules.

"Look Out, Sir and Shooting" starts with:

"When a Wound is allocated to one of your non-vehicle characters..."

"Look Out, Sir and Assaults" similarly states:

"As with shooting attacks, if a non-vehicle character has a Wound allocated to him..."

So as others have said and as the rules fairly clearly state, you must decide when the wound is allocated to the model, not after you've already decided to try and roll the model's armour save
