So I know orks often tend to band different clans together for fights. A powerful Warboss can unite two clans and have them fight under one banner. So I'm looking for some ideas. I've painted my orks with the darker green tone and blue trim since starting them, but I like the look of these newer, light skinned, red trimmed orks. I was thinking of advancing my storyline something to the effect of, "the blue trimmed orks are from a swamp world, the red trimmed orks are from a desert planet.. united under the blue sude's Warboss"... Any thoughts? Anyone know of any planets that are swampy, and any planets that are covered in desert (that aren't already highly claimed and under the influence of one faction)? I'd like to not only advance the storyline in this way, but it'd be nice to have 500-1000 pts painted a different color for skirmish games with friends. Thanks for any ideas!

You could probably just make up some planets, the 40k universe is constantly expanding and changing, so you have pretty free reign. If you're looking for a way to have had the blue orks take command of the red ones, the warboss could've gotten access to a space hulk or made a rok, and made it to the desert planet (probably by crashing in to it) and beat the red orks into seeing the blue ork warboss as the biggest ork around. Also, orks have a tendency to team up against a common enemy, and then fight once they kill off the common enemy, so maybe the red orks were caught I'm a fight with someone, maybe IG?, and the blue orks showed up and showed the red orks how to do a real war. Good luck with your endeavors, hope this helped.

Different Ork tribes and clans fight alongside each other all the time. Only when they run out of other gits to krump do they turn on each other (or when the boss dies).
The blue ones could be Deathskulls (blue is their colour because it is lucky) while the red ones could be a group of Speed Freeks or Evil Sunz that joined the Deatskull warboss' Waaagh!
Regarding planets, just make a few up or search on Lexicanum for one that you like. 40k is more a setting than a storyline. It exists for you to set your own stories and characters in.

For what it's worth, don't feel obligated to observe the hoary old trope of 'Single Biome Planets". Sure, Star Wars does it all the time. But you know what? Earth has swamps, and deserts, and snow-covered things (some of which are also, technically, deserts). While it is certainly possible that a world might just have one type of biome, there's no reason to assume it. Armageddon (despite being the home of the Steel Legion, and famed for the desert gear), had polar ice, seas, equatorial jungles, deserts, and hive cities.

It's fine to have orks from two planets, but don't feel that is necessary to introduce to your storyline unless it is something that you WANT to do. I'm sure the orks have some planets with deserts and swamps on them.

Gork Morka is a largely desert planet, and so is uruk, both are entirely under ork control,
Ork clans are known to inhabit the same planets and will often have clan wars on a planet, for example Ghazzy united several ork clans on uruk, and Ghazzy's BFF Dok Grotsnik is a deff skull.

Maybe have the blue Orks from Stalinvast. They boarded an Imperial transport ship thinking it to contain some shooty stuffz (never listen to grotz) only to learn their planet gets destroyed from the human crew, whom they kill. They try to drive it back to check but the transport crashes into your red Orks ship who immediately welcome them into their current Waaaaggh! The blue Orks make a pact not to tell the red Orks it was them who crashed the transport, blaming the 'umies instead, explaining that they had tried to stop them.

just claim the orks are differnt groups united under a single warboss for a Waagh.

Opinions are not facts please don't confuse the two

Look at Gorgutz 'ead Hunter for example, he united several clans on a single planet, then led them. Uniting two tribes is child's play for a decent warboss.

Orks of different clans fighting together (in both senses!) is the norm. A large grouping of Orks is a Tribe, which contains Orks from any or all of the different Clans.

As others have said, you can do pretty much whatever you want in terms of lore. No one can really tell you otherwise. The galaxy is a huge place.

Example: I have three different colors of Orks. Blue skins, red skins, and green skins. Each plays a different role in my army based on the fluff I came up with.

The Blue Skins are led by Grark Mcshinygubbins, a Big Mek, who come from a planet whos radiation has caused them to develop blue skin, and enhance their intelligence higher than most Orks. Thus, they are the more technological of my army. The Blue Skins wield shootas, are the Lootas and Burnas, tending to the Kanz and Dreads in my army.

The Red Skins come from a dust planet, whos constantly burning sun has caused their skin to develop a dark red. Their personalities match their skin tone, being ruthless and blood thirsty, and near feral. They are led by Morg Deffbringa, a Warboss, who rallies under Grark with the promise of traveling to many, many planets so they can show their ferocity and strength to the galaxy.

The Green Skins are the last fragments of other fallen/disbanded warbands that Grark and company find on planets they visit, and recruit for their cause.

The Green skins see Grark as a potential prophet of Mork due to his sheer 'genius' and his ability to make cunning weaponry and vehicles for them to wage war. They also see Morg as a potential prophet of Gork due to his sheer ruthlessness and brutality, as he has no mercy for anyone, not even his own. The two standing side by side seem like an unstoppable force, and any Ork without a clan (And even entire developed Clans see the benefit of following such powerful warlords) barely hesitate to rally under them.

also maybe consider that your ork clans might have budded from the same clan at one point. my own deathskull bigmek crash landed on a planet, took the local feral orks in his waaagh, greatly boosting his diminished numbers. the feral orks were originally snakebites, but as the bigmeks tech was becoming more prevalent in their clan soon other types of clans emerged
-speedfreeks who loved how those smoke belching thingys on rubber circles went so fast.
-blood axes. being originaly feral, these orks liked to hunt, so eventually komandos start popping up, and soon enough through the influence of the bigmek, stormboyz were marching in formations with shiny new roket packs.

this is your army. invent some funny but cool sounding name for your warlord, figure what clan he came from, then make stories on how he rises to the top, how he got his name, and how he rises above the distrust of the clans and sees the benefits of all ork clans fighting together against whatever isnt ork.
