Hey mates, for those who are not aware I am currently in the middle of building my mechanized Imperial Guard army and while I was putting my list together, a friend suggested I take a look at the Death Korps of Krieg Assault Brigade as he feels that it would fit my playstyle better and keep tonthe fluff of running a Storm Trooper army. And after taking a look at them I can honestly say that I am really enjoying the idea of running an army of Grenadiers in Chimeras. Granted they do have some drawbacks in terms of points and the lack of certain vehicles and weapons such as Vendettas however they do still have access to Medusa's and they get Chimeras with Autocannon turrets, which is awesome. That being said do you guys think these would make a good army in 7th edition or would it be more of a fluff list? Anybody who plays this list please feel free to share any tactical advice on running a list with these guys.

Guessing that no one plays this list or that's it's out of date lol?

You should PM Peregrine. He's the FW expert.

You shouldn't be worried about the one bullet with your name on it, Boldric. You should be worried about the ones labelled "to whom it may concern"-from Blackadder goes Forth!

I'm afraid not many people play the DKoK army list. I've seen people use the models with the regular IG (or AM, at it were) codex, though.

Which is a shame. There is a lot of variety of factions in 40k if people would look at more of the FW lists.

On moon miranda.

I play this army.

Unfortunately, it doesn't function tremendously well as a mechanized force. The Chimera variant is just too absurdly expensive, and the Grenadiers, while initially seeming to be ok when the list came out in 2013, really just still have the same problems they always did just not *quite* as bad. They suffer largely the same problems that Tempestus Scions/Stormtroopers do, in that they've got a basic guardsmen statline, with even shorter range guns that remain S3, and pay out the nose for AP3 that they can't effectively use. For a full sized Grenadier unit with a couple of Plasma guns in a completely barebones Storm Chimera, you're looking at 225pts.

Honestly, the best units in the list are not vehicles, but Artillery. BS4 Rapier Laser Destroyers as Elites for a relatively low price and things like Heavy Mortars/Thudd Guns for Heavy Support, all sporting T7 and ignoring 25% morale tests, is pretty clutch. Tons of firepower, lots of resiliency, for a relatively small investment, the only problem is that they're not moving.

The one saving grace of the army is that it ignores 25% morale tests. That makes it somewhat playable.

It's a fun list, it's got a lot of flavor, but it's not terribly effective when mechanized, and is very static when played otherwise.

IRON WITHIN, IRON WITHOUT.

New Heavy Gear Log! Also...Grey Knights!
The correct pronunciation is Imperial Guard and Stormtroopers, "Astra Militarum" and "Tempestus Scions" are something you'll find at Hogwarts.

Fair enough but I am mainly sticking with the Mechanized Fluff as I served in a Striker in the Army, and I love the idea of a Special Forces Army hence why I went with it. I also plan to run this army out of the Astra Militarum Codex as well to double dip army lists.

I use the Assault Brigade as well. As a mechanised list, it would be dependent on the list's wide variety of non-vehicular support options as previously covered. The Grenadier/Chimera combo can work, but you need Heavy Mortars, Thudd Guns, Rapiers and so on to engage the things which Grenadiers are ill-suited to fight.

Honestly, for just putting Chimeras full of dudes with killy guns on the field, the regular dex works better (though it's still a mediocre at best build, despite being the best one Guard can do....). Grenadiers in Storm Chimeras are more a support unit for the Assault Brigade - their only mobile troop used to contest objectives and plug holes around their normal infantry. Its how I've used them myself, rather than the core of the force and they do the job reasonably well.

Therefore, I conclude, Valve should announce Half Life 2: Episode 3.

The problem with the Assault Brigade list is not that it's terrible and you'll lose every game, but that other armies now get all of its tricks and do them just a little better (and with 7th's detachment rules having everything in one army list is much less important). Having stormtroopers as troops is much less important now that everything scores, the IA:Vraks list gets better death riders, codex IG gets better mechanized squads, etc. And you're not interested in respawning platoons, the one thing IA12 can still do that none of the other IG variants have. If you don't mind a little inefficiency here and there (buying mandatory extra armor on your Chimeras and losing the lasgun arrays, having a terrible mandatory HQ, etc) it's not the worst list ever and you can probably have fun games in a casual environment. But if you want a competitive army look elsewhere.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.
