just a thought that might make moderating the site a little easier.

If a user's ability to create thread could be separately active from their ability to post in threads, that could cut down on spam threads (although that seems less of an issue than perhaps it was this time last year) by requiring a certain number of posts before a new thread could be created, it would equally allow sanction for a certain type of poster, which, without naming names we seem to have a hardcore of, who consistently post thread topics for no other purpose but to cause disruption.

Not something worth going to massive effort for, I'm sure, but if it were easy to implement or could be incorporated into a wider update, it might be worth adding.

There's already something like that in place... New users are limited to a maximum number of thread starts, which has massively reduced the workload getting rid of spam posts.

Stopping new accounts from starting threads at all would be counter productive... a lot of new posters start out because they have a specific question, or something specific to share, and so jump straight in with a thread or two rather than commenting on existing discussion.
