Hi Chaps

So I tried nids for the first time this weekend using a friend's models. I was just trying it for a laugh, didn't expect much from it as they are so vastly different from my current army (GK). Turns out they are an absolute blast to play, so I want to start collecting them as a new army. Would like some feedback on the list I used. It performed well overall but interested to see what current nid players think of it. FYI, I prefer to not use swarm models (yeah yeah, probably the wrong army but thats what I played and enjoyed!).

So the 2 Carnifex and the Zoanthropes hitch rides in the pods. Tyrant can fly off for some early damage with the warriors getting into defensive positions and moving forward as the pods/mawloc some in. The only thing I found which didnt perform well was the Mawloc, as it scattered off its main target then just kind of sat there for the rest of the game. My alternative to a Mawloc would be to drop 1 Tyrannocyte (probably the Zoanthrope's one) and take an Exocrine. Thoughts on that?

Mawlocks are quite situational, find terminators or the like and they quickly make points back.

In this list I'd swap out a Mawlock and Tryranocyte for a Trygon prime, I've done well deep striking them back field early game and taking out fire support units. 12 st5 shots should wittle them down on landing then charge in for clean up If you took some devilgaunts and had these pop up from the trygon tunnel that would also be good, they pump out the shots, claim objectives being troops and the trygon keeps them in synapse.... That's the theory!

Yeah the mawloc is the bit I'm not sure on. Not sure I like Trygons though. Other than the tunnel thingy, I don't really see the point of them and their points price is too expensive to justify that IMO when tyrannocytes seem to do the job just as well, for half the cost and with similar dakka.

Not a bad "Nidzilla" list, One weakness is having a single Tyrant, FMC's work best in multiples. With only one it is easy for the foe to pick his target. One reason to include Some gribblies is to provide a screen for the Big Bugs, add a Venothrope, and they become much more durable.

I personally like Mawloc, and have very good luck with it. I think of it as Artillery, that turns into a Big Bug when it lands. If you decide to drop it, a Dakkafex would fit nicely, or you could get some Gribblies.

Another option would be a FMC, it might not be a Tyrant, but having a second Flier will help against most foes.

I see your point about FMCs working better in multiples but I recently called a friend a big block of cheddar for having 2 flyers in a 1500 point list, so I couldn't handle being near the smug git if I did the same!

I guess a Mawloc isn't too bad if you look at it that way, maybe I will just keep it. What are peoples opinions on an Exocrine though because I like the look of them on paper?

FMC =/= Flyer (it's even cheesier )

I wouldn't put Regen on the Flyrant, as it's the only FMC it will be focussed down quite quickly so you won't get to make use of it.

With the points saved, you could get an Exocrine in place of the Mawloc I always make sure to include an Exocrine in my lists these days, AP2 shooting is hard to come by in Tyranids (and Mawlocs always scatter for me).

I am quite liking to look of this list. I feel like I have fit a lot more into it by just reducing the size of my Zoan brood (which was quite large) and sacrificing a couple pods. I don't think the zoan's losing their pod will make a massive difference. My board is full of big scary targets so they should be free to waddle up the board and be getting into range not that long after a pod would get in if I was lucky. The carnifexes will now slog but have a Toxicrene backing them up which not only acts like a Venomthrope but if it makes it into combat, it'll tear non/low-invun units apart. Finally I left 1 pod in for a Tyrannofex to use. He can drop down and vomit on any suitable target, be it infantry with acid spray or AV targets with ESG. My Flyrant remains for AA targets.

I like it, but would be pleased to hear C&C if I am misjudging something.
