So I am a little confused about when I can take an allied detachment and how that interacts with a knight detachment.

The Imperial Knight FAQ says I can take a knight detachment consisting of 1-3 Knights. At 3 Knights I can make one of them my warlord, if I have no other characters in my army, I can make one my warlord at 1 or 2 Knights.
The Allied Detachment says it can never be my primary detachment and my warlord can never be taken from it.

So the question:

Can I take a Knight Detachment (1 knight), and an Allied Detachment (1 HQ, 1 Troop, 1 Elite and 1 Heavy Support) as a Battle Forged Army?
If so, can I nominate my Knight as the warlord? As my warlord can NEVER be from my allies? Or does the Knight detatchment's wording make it so I have to make my warlord any other character in the army?

Or would this only be possible with an unbound list?

If you have no characters eligible to be a warlord, then a non character model can be a warlord. But it would gain no warlord trait.

and pretty sure wouldn't be eligible for seneshal

"Note that if you have had to pick a non-character model as your warlord, then it does not receive a warlord trait, but counts as a warlord for all othe rules purposes"

So I would assume he would be counted as a seneschal?

Also, if the knight is my warlord, then that detachment is my primary detachment. (As per the warlord rules)

According to the imperial knight rules:

"if you are fielding an army where the primary detachment is made up of imperial knights, one knight must be nominated as the knight warlord for the army. A knight Warlord always has the rank of seneschal. In addition they receive a walord trait rolled for on the table below"

Ok checking the faq, then yes, any imperial knight which is a warlord, becomes a character and gains seneshal.

That's actually pretty powerful, as it allows you to issue challenges.

and indeed gets a warlord trait. Lucky Knights!

Ah I just checked the FAQ again, and it does indeed become a character and gets a trait but doesnt gain seneschal

"If your Warlord is an Imperial Knight, that Knight is a character. A Knight Warlord receives a Knight Warlord Trait from the table below. A Knight Warlord cannot roll on any other Warlord Traits table. In addition, if your army contains at least two other Imperial Knights, the Knight Warlord automatically has the rank of Seneschal, as described in the Knightly Rank table above."

Still pretty decent.

Or you can just take Grenaticus, since he is already a character with seneschal stats, and the ability to re-roll stomp rolls of 1.

If you are playing with forge-world rules.

Why do you need Forgeworld to run Sanctus Reach?

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

Because I'm not familiar with it and assumed it was a forge-world unit. I think we all know that means it automatically becomes a forge-world unit. Thats how it works right? Its like internet law 101.
or...

The whole point of only taking an allied detachment along with my knight is because Im tight on points. Also Gerantius can't take the battlecannon which is the better option for the army im playing.
