I played for 7 years, have 50's in every realm, and I miss it! My second favorite mmo ever, next to Ultima online.

It would be nice if I could find a guild with fellow dakka-ites

I loved DAoC. It was my first real gaming love, some of my favourite gaming experiences involved me being killed by crabs in Svealand or Werewolves in Myrkwood. There was even a time that my future wife and I played it in shifts for 24 hours a day and it probably was chiefly responsible for me getting a third in my first degree and having do another Bsc.

That actually sounds quite bad but its an indication of how much fondness I had for the game.

Unfortunately it is not the game that I remember, or rather I am not the same gamer. What was amazing 14 years ago is tired today. Its still a fun game but its a pale shadow of the game that I remember.

I haven't played for over twelve years. Takes me back.

n'oublie jamais - It appears I now have to highlight this again.

It is by tea alone I set my mind in motion. By the juice of the brew my thoughts aquire speed, my mind becomes strained, the strain becomes a warning. It is by tea alone I set my mind in motion.

I had to stop. Played a Norse and the general dreariness of the zone really got to me. I have a screenshot somewhere of the sun. That's right, the sun. Because it was so amazing that I actually saw the damn thing through all the rain.

That really does take me back. I used to love that game. Only really stopped cause my guild all switched over to WoW and WoW bored me.

It is the for-bearer of decent 3D MMO's. WoW took a lot from it, though not its sweet PvP.

Amidst the mists and coldest frosts he thrusts his fists against the posts and still insists he sees the ghosts.

I dont think its PvP has ever been bettered, although in fairness its not something I bother with in MMOs.

Horribly buggy, cripplingly prone to zergs and rammed full of Twinks yet I don't think I've every enjoyed getting ganked more than my many, many (many) deaths in Thidranki.

I started off with Meridian 59, then Everquest, then Anarchy Online, then DAOC then WOW. Now after all those years all I have to show for it is a giant belly built on pizza and mountain dew, but I'm finally free of the curse.
