In my next battle against one of my friends I've decided to try some summoning with my DP for my Thousand Sons, mostly just to see what happens (and also because I have two squads of Horrors kicking around).

Now, I've borrowed someone's Codex: Chaos Daemons for the unit's rules, and I'm a bit puzzled by the 'Daemon of Tzeentch' special rule, specifically the bit about improving the pskyer's LD for psychic tests, something that now works in a different way.

I checked the GW website for FAQs, and while they amended something that worked in a similar way (Disruptive Song now reduces the leadership of nearby enemy psykers by 1 in general, instead of just for psychic tests), there's no mention of the DoT rule.

Have they just lost that part of their ability, or does it work in a new way? (like for perils tests, etc). Or have they done a reprint or whatever of the codex and I'm just looking at a very old one?

Basically it only takes effect in perils rolls now.

It only helps you if you perils, and only for some of the results.
