In the fluff some Berzekers would jump on the back of a defiler in an attempt to subdue it and control it to their will. This should be represented in game with A. Berzerkers may take a defiler as an open-topped dedicated transport to represent them hanging on for their lives, or a MOK of Khorne Chaos Lord may take a defiler as a mount turning him into a calvary unit. This should be a thing and could be awesome.

I'd do that in a campaign. House rule the Warlord to have that in the final act. That would be a hilariously fun way to end a campaign set.

Make the rule that whenever something shoots at a defiler with zerkers hanging on it's hull, roll a d6. On a roll of 1-2 the shot hits a zerker. They should also be subject to no escape rule and take d6 hits every time something flames a defiler.

This was a formation for Apocalypse in 5th Ed.

Basically the Defiler HAD to change all their weapons for CCW's, and they had WS5, Init4 and +1A, representing the Zerker Champion that was using it as a mount, their profils where merged in sorts and they counted has one model.

They could run+assault on 2D6.

And if a unit of Zerkers where next to the Defiler they could hang on it at the start of his movement phase or shooting phase if it runned, use the movement of the Defiler and then "disembark" and assault.

If the 2D6 gave a 1 (or was it a double?, don't remember), one of the Zerkers models (choosen by the player) was squished by one of the Defilers claws during the run.

Fluffwise you had Zerker Champions, that jumped on a Defiler turret, and used a chain inscribed with Runes of domination to "tame" the thing, and use it as a mount...

I find it a missed opportunity from GW to not have included such a formation with Defilers and Maulefiends in the Deamonkin codex.

i mean if there is a codex where you have Zerkers, crazy enough to try taming a Defiler it would be in this book no?

Could make a 1-3 Defilers, 0-3 Maulerfiends formation, with those rules.

It's rare that GW keeps the cool stuff from previous editions for csm. I don't see why they had to cap the god specific daemon weapons for example.

I imagine they didn't add this formation because they don't have a model to represent this, however easy that conversion would be. Would have given the Defiler a reason to exist....sigh

Remember that GW is a minis company first. If they don't sell it, you can't convert it.
