Hi Dakka,

Its been ages since I posted here. The war-gaming bug has bitten me once again. I want to start a new army to get a fresh start on the hobby. I'm an average painter, I'd say most of my models are above tabletop quality. I take more pride in the painting and collecting than I do in the gaming. Due to this I've set myself a challenge. I'm going to start my first Eldar army. However I have one very specific issue that I need help with first.

I'm not too keen on the standard Eldar heads, so I've decided to replace them with some partially converted Dark Elder Ravager heads.

I really like the blank smooth helmet look and I think it fits in nicely next to wraithguard/lords etc. Having searched for further inspiration on painting I noticed that a few of you out there are using hex stencils/grids and airbrushes to make hex pattern on your wraith models.

What I'd really like to do, if possible, is find an even smaller hex pattern stencil for each of my Eldar's Ravager heads. Free handing at that small scale is out of the question for my skill range.
So far I've managed to find a mini hex grid from Anarchy Models which was recommended to me for larger helmets such as the wraith models, but I feel this will be too big for ravager heads (however if anyone has experience with this stencil please correct me).

So in short I turn to you dakka. Do any of you wonderful people out there know where I can find the smallest hex grid possible or have any advice on how I should proceed.

Sorry for rambling, I'm just excited to have had my passion rekindled for the hobby.

Best Wishes,

Kaetor

TL;DR? I think Anarachy's Mini Hex grid is too big for Ravager heads, alternatives?

Airbrush over a piece of window screen would be your best bet. We use the same technique when painting scales on crankbaits. So long as you can get a fine enough mesh that's what I would recommend.

That or find a friend (or friends wife) with a cricket or other vinyl cutter and have them make you a stencil.

Yep, using window screen works perfectly for doing a hex pattern on something as small as an Eldar helmet.

You could find some fine tulle at a fabric store as well on the cheap. Its the stuff they make wedding veils out of.

If you buy too much it makes great chain link fencing too...

Great product, re-usable.
