Ok, so, looking at the Steel Host formation, I've got a question.

Given that formations sometimes seem to break units from their original requirements (e.g. Canoptek Harvest with 1 Spyder, Rampart detachment with a Platoon Command Squad without a Platoon), does the singular "Tank Commander" in this formation mean just the tank commander as a singular tank, or as normal as part of a squadron?

thanks in advance!

The correct pronunciation is Imperial Guard and Stormtroopers, "Astra Militarum" and "Tempestus Scions" are something you'll find at Hogwarts.

The codex also just refers to tank commander as just "tank commander". The formation doesn't do anything to change how you take tank commanders.

And that's what I figured was most likely the case, however It has both the "Entry" of "Tank Commander" which mandates at least one additional tank, and a distinct unit called "Tank Commander", and seeing as how we've had other Formations specifically call for something out of the normal order (as mentioned earlier), I wanted to clarify that for myself before trying to run a Steel Host potentially.

Formations list units that must be included. Sometimes they are listed in a way that dictates how one or more options for that unit must be used. The Harvest for example wants a Spyder unit. That unit can normaly contain 1-3 Sypders but this formation only allows for 1 Spyder in the unit. The rampart detachment formation actually only lists the platoon command squad. You can't take the infantry squads because taking them is not an option for a platoon command squad, they are a requirement an infantry platoon but thats not the unit in the formation.

If the steel host modified the options for a tank commander they would be listed in way such as'1 tank commander without any other leman russ tanks'. Although it is strange its listed as "1 tank commander" as the unit will never have more then 1 tank command in it but then again a bunch of choices they made when writing that unit are just plain weird.
