So in light of recent discovery from the last couple days, does anyone still think that 30k should not be allowed in 40k competitive games?

We're having that discussion now for our group and wanted some 3rd party input.

If people allow this Eldar codex to run amok unchecked then there is absolutely no reason to restrict 30K or FW in general anymore.

In fact I'm betting you'll have to pull down some FW just to stand a chance in a tourney format.

Maybe that's the plan. But the joke's on them. I'll go do something else. Again.

This to me is the problem I don't feel those at GW are seeing. Imbalancing the game to the point where people say "oh, well why shouldn't I just use superheavies/30k/titans since everything else is a mess?" gets people feeling more and more that the game has no structure. Eventually, the question becomes "why not just make up my own rules?" which progresses into "why am I just sitting here going 'pew pew pew' with my buddy when we could be playing an actual game...as opposed to playing imaginary."

People like structure. Sure, it can be confining, but going to free-for-all has consequences, and I think that people are going to increasingly choose to just not play 40k. The people complaining on the forums are the most ardant fans of the game, the rest of the population will just silently go on their way and do something else. And we will see this in the financials of GW continuing to take a nose-dive. Very few customers want to pay $85 for a ruleset whose main premise is "you go make up the rules! Oh and don't worry, we'll have a new version of this book REALLY telling you to go make your own rules in a few years!"

Just give it a trial run in your group using different lists and different armies.

There's really no reason not to include 30k armies in 40k, unless you really want to play by strict RAW. Nothing in 30k is going to be more of a balance issue than the ones that already exist in 40k, and all of the rules are compatible. In fact, the biggest issue you'll have is that most 30k armies are pretty weak in normal 1500-2000 point games because their point scaling is intended for 2500+. You may find that you have to tone down the 40k armies a bit to make the game interesting.

FW hasn't been restricted for a long time. I run it all the time. There is no controversy over this, at least at my LGS.

We currently have a 30k Army participating in our slow-grow league. No issues so far.

I've played mechanicum against 40k armies before and had pretty normal results.

I mean, my Thallax can only take special weapons once per three models. Only a fething idiot would make units that can spam weapons like that, Forgeworld has at least a bit of sense.

At normal 40k point levels (1500-1850) 30k stuff is pretty weak, so there's no reason to restrict it.
