Hey ymdc
I've been looking all over and can't find a satisfactory answer to how wounds spill over in Challenges when you have a multiple assault going.
Since it's not unusual that your character gets whisked away from your unit to fight a character behind everything, the closest models can be a whole other unit (thats in the fight).
I feel the specific rule for wounds spilling over in a challenge (closest model) supersedes the rule for wounds in a multiple assault not spilling over to the other unit.
How is it RAW and how do you play it? Thanks

The rules for challenges only account for single unit. They are not specific. The rul for multi assault does not allow wounds to overflow, so you would need something specific 0- as in "in a multiple assault, wounds from a slain challenger are allocated to the nearest locked enemy model, regardeles of unit" or similar.

Since the multiple-assault rules does not mention challenges it is only pertaining to that instance generally. The specificy here is that the rule is about challenges, not assaults.
Otherwise it feels like a lot of things would have to mention other rules that are not in the least relevant. Automatically Appended Next Post: To clarify:
I had a discussion with a friend on why NOT leave your unit with the IC before assaulting, specially if you have a really weak character and the other guy has avatar of khaine or some monster. Then you are not in the unit charging during the challenge, all spill over attacks dissapear. Plus you choose who gets the overwatch.
Feels like this should be a regular occurence in tournaments...

The entire context of the challenge rule is single assault. All of it. There is no concept anywhere in the challenge rule that states it applies to multiple assaults, so it doesnt.
Challenges rule applies to all challenges, single or multi assault
The multi assault only apply to multiple assaults. Which is more specific? It isnt the former, for sure

Ok!
So in a challenge, in a normal assault, challenge wounds spill over to nearest model whatever they are?
And in a multi assault they spill to nearest model in the unit you "choose" to attack.
I mean, both versions break the game, especially when they are fighting next to a building or tank...

Single assault -they spill over to the nearest model in the unit you are engaged with.
Challenge Wound allocation doesnt change who you are fighting in assault, you still have to determine exactly where attacks are going before rolling anything.
How does this break the game?

I'm just going by how it's written and how specific vs general works, thats why it's broken. I really dont care, if thats how people play we will play it like that. It gives alot more leverage for the guy charging. Thanks.
