Having just gotten into 40k after a long time off (I think the last time I played was 4th), I had a question regarding Chaos Bikers equipped with Metlaguns.

Most of the models I see that have Meltaguns modeled on them still also have a Boltgun still attached. According to the rules, you replace the Twin-linked Boltgun for a single Meltagun (not twin-linked?), so there's no reason to keep it on the model, correct?

I ask because I'm heaving converting all my bikers, and am finding it very difficult to place both guns on the model, so only needing a single Meltagun would be much easier for me!

No. According to the rules you may replace either their close combat weapon or their bike's twin-linked boltgun.

Usually you would replace the twinlinked boltgun on the bike with a single meltagun (and the targeting doodad to replace the second boltgun).

But yes, if you have no intention of getting into melee you could leave the boltguns and give the rider the meltagun instead.

Either way, you don't have both guns on the bike itself.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but if a model has no listed CCW it still gets to make melee attacks. The only time replacing a CCW with a ranged weapon matters is if the ranged weapon is not a pistol and the model was previously getting an extra melee attack for having two+ CCW

Chaos bikers come with a close combat weapon and a bolt pistol as standard equipment.

Apologies, when I said bikers, I meant the bikes themselves. I'm not switching out the CCW for the Meltagun but the Twin-linked Boltgun.

I just wanted to make sure that the bike itself didn't need to have the Boltgun left on.

For instance, this bike has a Meltagun and a Boltgun on it, while from how I'm interpreting the rules, it cannot. Is that correct?

It's probably for easy modeling purposes. The bolter part is your Bolt Pistol shot (if you want it) and then the Melta and CCW. Fail to see an issue.

Oddly this is pertinent;

There's a rule for bikes saying that they can fire a weapon for each rider (hence why an Attack Bike can fire both its guns). If I were to model a Chaos Biker to have two riders, and replaced a CCW with a Meltagun, could I fire both the twin-linked bolters and the meltagun?

You are correct.

Of course not. If I model my Dreadnaught to be 8lbs of physical weight can I say it gets Stomp? An 8 pound model is 'super heavy' but no, you can't just arbitrarily add things to a model and say that's legal.

That rule is basically completely pointless. They should just make it a special rule for the attack bike like the Harlequin ones.
