Hello dakkadakka, it's your favorite Black Templar list spammer. I went to GWs website and saw the new Eldar codex / bikes. I've always been a fan of the Wraiths of the Eldar army but not of the bikes or other units lol. The hats are too much . The new bikes look awesome and with that I am thinking of a Wraith / bike list. Just a heads up that I have never seen an Eldar codex or an army even played before (small gaming group of just Black Templars, Tau, and Grey Knights). Since I'm at work with zero ways of looking up costs I was curious if you all would help me and if this idea would even work.

Spirit seer so the Wraith guard become a troop choice

2 5 "man" Wraith guard units in their dedicated transports (don't know the name lol) with twin link catapults and bright lances

Several group of jet bikes

Lol not a very detailed idea but that's all I have in my memory banks lol (at work and dead tired). Any tips would be awesome. Now that I said that I remember BTP Shaun playing a wraith guard list vs space marines and they were assaulted and stuck the entire game and Tigurius nuked all the jet bikes lol. Thanks for any ideas in advance

Unfortunately, spirit seer'so don't make wraith guard troops in the new Eldar codex.

Since you plan on using bikes though, it won't make too much differencenter in the end, but you'l be able to take a different HQ if you want

Hey kelen. Eldar are an epic race to play. And can be a lot of fun. But with the new book coming out on Saturday, absolutely no one will want to play you whatsoever. There will be no enjoyment for anyone at your small gaming group. I have been an eldar player for years. And namely an Iyanden player. So wraith heavy. Alas, all my wraiths will likely be retired to the shelves now due to them becoming absurdly powerful. I may field a unit or two. But I doubt it.

If you're desperate to go that way, then it's more difficult than it used to be. Spiritseer don't make wraiths troops anymore. That rule has gone. Not that that's an issue if you're running a CAD as your jetbikes cover that base. I can happily help you build a list. But you won't make any friends with it.

Are wraith blades going to be a thing now too? If so I'd love to field them lol. These units are basically the only Eldar units that I like appearance wise. Guardians maybe lol. It's only going to be a 1000 point list and if it hurts their feelings I won't use it often . Also out of our group I have the weakest army lol. My army depends almost entirely of my vindicators boy scattering or dieing (or getting immobilized by my nephews predators turn 1 lol)

I'm still waiting for the fabeled day the Black Templar get a supplement lol

What about getting the new codex first and read through it before you are to invest so much money? Maybe there are other units that suit your needs.

Well these fine folk seem to know about the new codex that I am not able to read right now for I am at work. Also the only units that I am interested are the new (better looking) bikes and the wraiths units.

you can have your list and not spam it so people hate you!

take a spiritseer HQ
couple of bike sqds with a 1:1 ratio of shuriken cannon and shuriken catapult (you could go all shuriken cannon, esecially since you won't be fielding a ton of them)
add 2 sqds of wraithguard in wave serpentts, 1 with cannon, 1 blade.

as for points, based on rumours/comments (I don't have book)

the bikes would be 81pts each if all 3 armed with shuricannon
the wraith units would be 560 in wave serpents with brightlances
not sure of cost of spiritseer, say 70pts?

still leaves you with a couple hundred points spare. Maybe add to jetbikes, or add a different unit

Here's a break down of the list you'll essencially be fielding, English scans are on the internet now:

HQ:
Spiritseer 70

Troops:
6 Jetbikes, Scatter Lasers 162

6 Jetbikes, Scatter Lasers 162

Elites:
5 Wraithguard, D-Scythes 210
Serpent /w Bright Lances 115

5 Wraith Guard, D-Cannons 160
Serpent /w Bright Lances 115

Total: 994

You can split those bikes up how you like. Probably 4x3

Why would you buy a codex before you even know you want to build an army?

I would head to your nearest GW store, they usually have one of each codex you can look through. I would also look through other members Eldar army lists and see what a well rounded army looks like... right it down or print it out... then head to the store (or find it online somewhere) and see if that's a list you would be interested in running.

Sorry, only slightly OT here but generally speaking why take a spiritseer then if the "old" Iyanden rules our gone. As far as i understood the benefit of the seer proximity is part of the wraith formation and not an innate rule right?

No, the spiritseer has a rule that spirit marks enemy units within a certain distance that then allows wraiths to re roll. The range is higher than the weapons the wraiths carry. So with a spiritseer in the squad they will always be twin linked.

They gain battlefocus from the formation.

Who turned out the lights... got a little doom and gloom in here.

Honestly, as long as you're not running a power-gaming lists of bike spam and Wraith Knights it won't be that bad. The 'sky is falling' rhetoric is strong this release, but give it a month and things will mellow out a degree. Wraithguard are going to be very strong with D and pseudo-D strength weapons, but not the end of the world. If you like the aesthetic and idea of giant warithbone automatons marching with big bad guns, go for it. However, I've recently taken to running Wraithblades instead. Same cool feel and not overpowered. Plus the axe/shield loadout gives you that handy invuln. save.

Overall as long as your small group is gaming to have fun and work out fun lists, you can definitely make an enjoyable time with Eldar.

Don't get me wrong, I agree completely. It's the reaction of others that concerns me. I believe it will calm down too. And when it does, they'll come back off the shelf.

Yeah, I would give it a month or two before the waves settle. People will forgot how OP the Eldar were, and move onto whatever else GW pushes out next.

Well, he clearly only wants the new shinies. Would be better to get a grasp for the Eldar before he starts buying things in the hundreds of dollars and that means diving into the fluff, look around what unique units there are. Also he knows he wants to build an army, I'm trying to wake the interest for other units here - would be beneficial for both sides of the table.

I am pretty sure I would never be able to play with any models I do not like the look of. This is why I do not play Tyranids with their dick tongues always hanging out and their "bio-guns". I have liked all of the wraith units look wise ever since I found out about WH40K. I am not using other infantry units because I do not want to fall into the Wave Serpent spam I hear is broken as hell. Which in my forum / gaming experience "footslogging is evil unless in numbers". What else is there but the pretty new shiny bikes? Also I had no clue what changes are happening to Eldar. I was just wanting a fun list with Wraithguards to think about for a possible 2nd army since my Black Templar are disappointing If it makes you feel better I looked up the fluff of Eldar and the Ulthwé are my favorite of the craftworlds. Also I am in the process of replacing my Black Templar army.

Well, Ulthwe is poker heavy and not wraith or bike heavy. So your list doesn't fit your fluff. The new Eldar book drops tomorrow, and trust me when I tell you that people will be begging you to spam serpents rather than the new wraith and jetbike rules. So it depends on what type of list you're after. Fluffy, pure WAAC or in between. I can happily help. Have been an eldar player for a long time. But it does seem convenient that the new book is out tomorrow with OP wraiths and OP bikes, and suddenly you want a wraith and bike army. There seems to be a lot of people trading in their old armies for eldar, and as a long time eldar player this really irritates me.

Guess I know how true Tau fans feel now.

lol I've said before multiple times that the only reason why I even put up a 1k list was because bike models actually look good now to me and like I said before I never even opened the last codex or seen an Eldar game in person and I have no clue what the new codex has in it until the first few posts.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Also to feel like a Tau player you need to have a gakky army and get an excellent army. Eldar is going from great to broken (from rumors)

you can easilly have you wraith/jetbike army AND not have it not being OP by simply taking wraithblades instead of wraithguards and only upgrading 1 in 2 jetbikes into a heavy weapon wielder.

and letting your opponent know if your gonna use a wraithknight which is officially too OP now to not give your opponent advance notice.
