I purchased a few Italeri boxed sets for French and British forces.

Im thinking of going for Black Powder rules, but was wondering what other rules might be fun to play?

I guess the rules will depend on how I should base them (in bits or whole formations etc). Any advice?

Cheers

Napoleonic rulesets? You will find a multitude of opinions as there are dozens and no standardized way to base.

You looking skirmish? Sharpe practice is popular. I have a little bit of 28mm for this.
Then there is tactical level where a unit is a battalion or regiment. Lots of choices I think black powder falls into this category. Hear it's fun.
Grand tactical where a unit is a brigade, 1/72 might be abit big for this. A lot of folks use 15mm or even smaller for these games where you can typically look to recreate a battle in its entirety.

Yea I gathered 1/72 was the odd size where it was too big for the truly large battles.

Well black powder is the rule set I hear about the most, I might just give that a go.

I assume as long as I base both sides with the same frontages it will be fine?

You might look into Bucher and getting the cards that are also available and can substitute for the miniatures until you decide more about what kind of miniatures you want to collect and get them tableworthy.

I'd pick up the book before basing, you can alter it to taste of course, this isn't GW! As long as it's consistent. I've lately been tempted to get some Hat 1/72 napoleonics. Pretty cheap and really the only way I'll ever afford to do larger napoleonic battles. 28mm is getting pricey, or maybe my disposable income is shrinking. Might have to wait for kids to graduate. Need a quiet decade to paint all those battalions

I picked up a fair amount of french and british 1/72 models while on holiday. I have started painting them, but if there is one thing I hate its unbased miniatures, hence why I am eager to start finishing them.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
I might just bite the bullet and go with Black powder, I can have the rules here in about 2 weeks so I can start completing the miniatures.

It shouldn't make too much difference what size the bases are as long as all your armies are based on the same standard. Usually a base represents anything from a company to a division, depending on the rules.

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.
