Hey guys, I just recieved my 4x4 game mat from gamemat.eu and I was wondering if any of you had any novel ideas for storing your own gamemats rather than simply rolling it up and putting it on top of a wardrobe?
Actually it's so long it wouldn't even fit on top of a wardrobe, so I just rolled it up and put it in my attic for the mean time.
How does everyone else store yours?
Cheers

Haven't tried it myself but finding two of these and two hooks on the wall might be the best way.
The only problem is that it will be quite visible so combined with placing it behind a door it should work out nice. and it the hooks allow it you could have a whole stack hanging.

Thanks for the comment, yes devoting a wall to hold the mat might not be possible. I have been looking into custom poster tubes. Most seem to want to charge me £20+ for the tubes, when I would rather pay half that!
Any other ideas anyone?

A different situation to be sure but I cut and mounted mine on 2' x 2' MDF boards and have them stack on their sides in the closet of the warhammer room.
Mobility and durability.

Storing it flat would be preferable - some rolled-up things tend not to unroll perfectly flat, or take hours/day to properly flatten themselves after being unrolled. (No idea whether the gamemat.eu ones do this.)
I like FearPeteySodes' solution, but it may be too much work for you, and would also add a fair bit of weight, which may be a hassle if you need to transport the board.

Easiest option would be to store it in a large poster tube (the card tubes used for shipping posters). they come in various sizes and are how I store and transport most of my mats

Yes this is the route I've decided to take. What diameter is sufficient to hold the gaming mat in your experience?

For a 4'x4' mat (fewer layers rolled up than a 6'x4', conveniently), you'd likely be able to get away with a 2" tube, if the mat is printed vinyl or thin felt. 3" or 4" for thicker vinyl or flocked materials, as it'll keep you from kinking the inner edge when you start rolling, since you can afford a looser overall roll. For textured/molded latex, neoprene, etc. I'd go all the way up to 6". The looser, the better, at least for the mat. Go as big as you can afford to buy and store, IMO.

Hide it under the bed?
If you must keep it flat that might work.
OR get a large flat sheet of card board with some cloths pin type apparatus, clip it onto the card board and slit it behind something like a Armour, dresser or in the back of the closet. dont have to worry too much about it deform or separating for a little while.

Yes, the larger the tube, the fewer the unrolling problems.
