Hello,
I have a group of Rapier Laser Destroyer batteries (FW), that I enjoy using. However, I'm a bit confused about their stats. In the Siege of Vraks book, they are said to have a Laser Destroyer Array, which is S9, AP2, 36" range, Twin-Linked, Ordnance 1. This differs from the Laser destroyer entry, which has the same rules and range, but is AP1.

In the IA:13 book, however, there is no such thing as a Laser Destroyer Array under the weapons summary, but there is a Laser Destroyer (AP1 version). Before I noticed the special Laser Destroyer Array in the Siege of Vraks book I played my rapiers as AP1, which is indicated in IA.13. If a person doesn't have both books, it is, in my opinion, reasonable for them to assume that the Rapiers in IA:13 are AP1, as that is the only laser destroyer entry in the book. Can they be played as such when using the army list from that book?

To further add to the confusion, ForgeWorld has now released rules for the Vindicator Tank Destroyer, which is armed with a Laser destroyer array. This is the exact same name as the weapon in Siege of Vraks, but this one has a 48" range and AP1. Do you think this is a typo, or does FW intentionally give the same name (and design) to several weapons with different stats?

I can't remember where I saw it (whether FW email response or some FAQ) but I know they clarified the Laser Destroyer or Laser Destroyer Array as AP1.

Vindi Tank Destroyer is different and more like the Neutron Laser.

Edit - scratch my last sentence.

Ok apparently LD or LDA was originally 36" AP2, and there was a FAQ on such. Then in newer books they changed it to AP1 and there was a FW response saying it was now all AP1. It DOES seem like the latest Vindicator IS also an LDA but as you correctly observed, it is now 48". So still don't know if they are retroactively making all LDAs 48".

Laser destroyer is AP1 in both IA:13 and IA:2 (also I think there is an ap1 one in IA:1). Along with what you say for the tank, I would suggest that the vraks one is the typo.

The problem with the new Vraks book is that it's a later publication than IA:13, in fact it is the newest FW book, and it clearly distinguishes between Laser Destroyer and Laser Destroyer Array, with the Array being AP2. I therefore struggle to see why it would be a typo.

You always use the newer book. Vraks is newer than IA13, so you should use Vraks. I your group accepts IA13, then it's ok.

Unless you picked your armylist from IA:13. Then you use the rules from the list you picked it from. Unless FAQd.
