Aye, I play it here. Thoroughly enjoyable game. Currently in the middle of a Malta campaign. I'm running the gauntlet of the Regia Marina trying to land spitfires and cargo!

Tis a shame it's been discontinued really...

I still play it indeed! If you haven't yet, make sure you check out the Axis & Allies Forumini:

That is pretty much the epicenter of the W@S online community. Great bunch of gamers, and a treasure trove of information and advice.

I also just posted a batrep on my blog from the last game I played:

Great game! Been years since I've played, but still have all my models and cards.

I play...

Sigh.

Who am I kidding? I only paint these days...

I never got into the game, the blind boosters made it hard to put together historically accurate fleet lists, and honestly I was not impressed by many of the plastic minis (some seemed pretty warped/bent).

Having said that, I have always been curious as to how it plays. Does Hasbro or whoever owns it have a way to download the rules and the ship stats? Can you buy a rules/token set without having to get their ships?

I have small German and British fleets in 1:3000 painted up. I actually did buy some War At Sea planes to use with them. I also have pretty big US and Japanese fleets in 1:6000.

I also just got in a TON of British, German and Italian ships/planes from the Topside Minis kickstarter. These are 1:1800 scale top down view printed ships you put onto wood bases. Pretty neat idea and an easy way to field large fleets that look pretty good.

Try this spot. Great resource for this game, and with some hunting, you'll be able to find the cards and rules (unless things have changed since I was there last)

Thanks, there is a lot to sort through there but it does look like a place to get what I am looking for.

It's a great game, and probably pretty easy to pick up enough ships online to put a game together. They're small enough that if you're not a stickler for naval accuracy, most any A&A battleship, carrier, cruiser, or other ships will proxy in nicely for whatever cards you can print off the internet.

The planes often have visible insignia, so it's a bit harder to proxy in a bunch of Japanese zeroes for your Italian naval air force!

I play...

Sigh.

With the Topside Minis ships and planes I just got I'm not worried about having to proxy for the Med and most Atlantic battles.

War at Sea is a fun little game. Rules are not complex, like any wizards game simple rules set with core rules being special abilities among the units.

Wizards also released a set of "off the grid" rules that were enjoyable as well.

Sold off most of my collection but kept a good chunk to play from time to time.

Yes and no. There are no new "official" (ie, made by WotC) models being made for it, but you can still get your hands on old stock pretty easily from a lot of online retailers, and even eBay. There is also a decent selection of 1:1800 scale minis that are compatible with the game available from Shapeways, now (if you are of a mind to paint them yourself).

I've recently gotten into this game. Sad that it's so hard to get minis for it. Anyone here from New Mexico wanna play?

It is a game I have played a few times.

I really love WWII miniatures.

I had a teacher at the first college I went to in 1982 who was HUGE in WWII miniatures (he was an Admiral in the Naval Reserve), and had a GIANT collection of WWII ships in 1/1200 and 1/700 scales.

He used to play in the Gym at the school, re-creating WWII battles, or mythical battles from WWII that never occurred (such as, what if the Germans had put the Bismarck and Tirpitz into a Battlegroup with some of the other large Ships-of-the-Line, and made a run on the British Fleet, or one of their shipyards).

The Axis & Allies game brought back that nostalgia.
