G'day!
I'm building a choppy list, and I need help deciding something.
I only field two tactical squads of the following build:
10 models
Flamer
Missile Launcher
Now, do I:
1) Combat Squad them, stick the Flamer with the sergeant in the Razorback and leave the missile behind or
2) place the whole squad in a Rhino
Things to take note of:
- my list lacks much long range punch, so the Razorbacks could be handy.
- Said Razorbacks could be armed with either TL Assault Cannon or Lascannon/TL Plasma Gun
- Only other dedicated anti armor unit is a Stormtalon with Lascannons
Opinions?

Then you want Razorbacks, and probably with either TLLC or the LasPlas options; people rave on and on about TLACs, but I'm not really sold on it. The range just feels like it's too much of a limiting option, unless you play Cities of Death or boards that are similarly heavy on LoS-blocking terrain.
So yeah, you definitely need to bring Razors instead, since you're dearly lacking on the long-range firepower, and especially long-range anti-armor.

TL ACs are overpriced and overrated. Avoid them.

I run BA, and I've had good use toting around a 5man tac squad with grav-guns in a razorback with a TLLC. I just drop them off at an objective at the beginning of the game and then use it for anti-armor. It doesn't ever last long, but it usually helps kill something a lot more expensive than itself before it goes.

Thanks, I'll definitely be packing the lasplas Razorbacks. It soumds way better than the assault cannons.

Rhinos all the time, with the possible exception of inquisition razorbacks.
Razorbacks are overpriced for what they do.

Marines are hard-up for heavy weapons, though. Well, if not using a centstar.

Tac marines don't rely on heavy weapons most the time though, it's all about the specials.
Bikes or sternguard usually fill rolls which require heavy weapons in over armies.
Tac squads work best imo with melta + combi melta and a rhino.

I have been using Rhinos with Plasma [2 Plasma for Grey Hunters and Plasma Gun Combi-Plasma for TAC] for some good affect, They got good ranger and you don't need Melta to take down most Tanks from the side.

That combo will be butchered by scatbikes. Even DE shading fields will give you fits. Don't underestimate a range advantage. The problem is that Imperium heavy weapons are overcosted.

Razorbacks may be overpriced, but they're one of the few ways to get more heavy weapons on the field without taking up the much more valuable/saturated FA and HS slots.
Personally I think Razors just need AV12 front armor and around a 5 point discount on the TLAC, TLLC, and LasPlas turrets, and then they'd be gold.

Max melta Tac squads are overly specialized and need to get very close; Salvo weapons are pretty terrible on non-Relentless infantry models, and Grav-guns would still be a better choice, due to the increased proliferation of high-T, high-save models (particularly T6+ 2+ armor models). Not only that, but Bikes work because they're T5 and very mobile, while Sternguard work because they're a Swiss army knife of sorts.
The Meltabunker Rhino is a relic of 5th edition, when a penetrating hit from a Meltagun had a 50/50 chance to blow things up. A Meltagun+Combi-Melta of 5th edition would have had very good chances to blow up a vehicle in one go... but this is 7th, and quite frankly going with Plasma or Grav would give better results. The meta is built around either T5+ models, almost invariably with a 3+ armor save or better, or massed light armor. In either case Plasma or Grav will give better results, as vehicles rarely explode these days. More often, they'll be wrecked via HP stripping. Even GW seems to have picked up on that, hence why the two "mini-army" releases of the Harlequins and Skitarii rely primarily on Haywire weapons to pull AT duty.
Rhinos are good if you already have sufficient weapons density and you just need a metal bawkse to take your doods somewhere. Razors are better if you want your metal bawkses to contribute useful shooting.

Melta got kicked in the balls in 7th. It kinda ruins the SR's big trick, too: flying MM.

Lol. What kind of a silly argument is that. 99% of the game gets butchered by scatbikes.
Tac marines have a snowball in hells chance of doing anything to scatbikes regardless of their loadout.
Max melta Tac squads are overly specialized and need to get very close;
Tac marines need to get close. Fighting outside of 12 is not where you want them unless the opponent has some nasty cc squads.
Personally I would use drop pods, as they are superior to both the rhino and razorback and close the distance instantly.
Razorbacks at 55 points base are an absolute joke.
Consider that you are paying 20 points over a rhino for a TL heavy bolter (already over costed), and that you are also giving up 4 transport capacity, a storm bolter and 2 firepoints.
If this was an option in a codex would you take it?
As I stated previously, the only time I would consider razorbacks to be competitive compared to rhinos is using inquisition.
An inquisition psyback with TL str 6 HB costs 45 points.
A better gun and 10 points cheaper than the standard SM loadout.
I wouldn't spend more than that on an AV11 chassis.

It's an interesting question. It's hard to tell for sure, but personally, i'd take a rhino over a razorback every time except for when you're short on points to get a heavy weapon platform elsewhere. You do need a transport for your tacs, so why not get a tllc or lc + pg for 40 pt over a rhino? Yes, it's overpriced point-to-point, but not that bad overall.
