Played a game last week with mono khorne daemons out of the chaos daemons codex, and had a blast.

however, i can't help but wonder if my army would have been better, just as is, out of the khorne daemonkin codex instead. i do have a csms, but not enough to do the slaughtercult or most of the formations they present (unless my opponent is ok with fantasy chaos guys running proxy)

so i guess the question is, is there a direct advantage to running mono khorne daemons out of the daemon codex?

Honestly for mono khorne, daemonkin is probably your better bet.

Each has its ups n downs. I personally like the daemonkin codex, as it allows us to basically summon more units like some daemon factory summoning list.

Daemonkin has a much more "spam" feel to it. Daemons can make more serious powerhouse units (herald on a crusher with hounds and grimoire, bloodthirsters with gifts, etc.), but daemonkin are gonna have lots of small units all over the place and give you the added bonus of being able to summon stuff onto the table as a khorne player.

Really the biggest advantage that I see Daemons having over Daemonkin are the different gifts. The best wargear daemonkin can take are the relics, and those are limited to one per model.

I'd go with Daemons, just for the Gifts tables - especially the Axe of Khorne at the price of a single Bloodletter. Pretty much a must-take...

I think that Daemonkin are way more potent than mono-Khorne C: D. BT table alone outweights everything else C: D khornates can provide.

I'd imagine daemonkin play a fundamentally different game.

i had two units of bloodletters that did practically nothing all game, and had they been cultists, they'd not only be cheaper points wise, but i'd get something out of their deaths.
the list i ran was based around a hound unit with two heralds (the grimoire turned out to be a huge liability actually), and a wrath of khorne thirster running around (bad rolls rendered him mostly ineffective), and a pair of soul grinders. i thought about giving someone the portal glyph, to summon horrors who would then be summoners themselves, but that didn't seem very khorne-y so i just kept the exalted gift i rolled up.

it seems like a bloodthirster is just straight not as good out of daemonkin, big bonus losing instability though, but a daemon prince would be much better compared to the daemon version. a jugger lord would be better than a daemonkin herald, but would you even want to run him with a big unit? would you rather have small units of hounds and then run the lord with spawn?
plus, it'd be hard to not try to build towards tithing all the time, which could change the whole approach anyways… that bonus point each turn from the slaughter cult seems like the way to go, but the list would be really different to fit in the minimum requirements.
could you run a small slaughter cult next to a CAD or ally detachment and get the whole army the bonus tithe points?

The tithe applies to the whole army, but only the slaughter cult would get the second effect

That's not the only advantage. There's no daemonic instability in the Daemonkin book. That is HUUUUUUUGE.....

If your playing Mono-Khorne then Codex Khorne Daemonkin is the way to go.
