Ive been working on my Elysians as well as an 1850 list. There are so many fliers. packed into the list at 1850 that I'm afraid I'll have trouble moving them on tbe table so I am considering allies.

At 1850 solo-Elysians, I'm looking at around 4 Valkyries turn 1 and then another Valkyrie, 2 Vendettas and a Vulture in reserves.

Does anyone have experience with allies for Elysians? Ive considered regular guard with a tank commander hq, drop pods, twc, but I have no idea outside of theory how they would work together in games.

The main problem with allies in an Elysian list is that it interferes with your combat drop total. Only Valkyries, drop Sentinels, and sentry guns count, so any unit that isn't one of those three is limiting your ability to bring in a proper first wave. It's not terrible if you have the Elysians as the allied detachment and your on-table forces are enough to avoid the automatic loss from having nothing on the table at the end of the turn, but there's an awkward middle ground where your allies have reduced your combat drop total too much but haven't added enough stuff to the table on turn 1 to make up for it.

Also, I hope you aren't counting the Vendettas and Vultures when you're getting four Valkiries on turn 1, and you have some unmentioned Sentinels and/or sentry guns in your list.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.

Im not counting the gunships towards the count, though I think they should have been included. Im padding the numbers with sentries a little.

I feel like there's only so much a bunch of valks can do though and it may be worth it to have Pask+punisher to act as a hammer or perhaps drop pods to make the turn 1 alpha have more variation

Pask and co can be ok, but there are problems with proliferation of D-weapons and the chance of them getting beat down by attrition/assault, especially as you won't have bubble wrap bodies. Remember that even after your fliers have dropped, your opponent may just focus on Pask because he's so much more vulnerable than most of your other (jinking flying) units.

I'd be inclined to ally in guard or inquisition to get a serious number of bodies on the table.

Something like:
Lord commissar
Priest
Platoon command squad (melta bombs and nade launchers/flamers)
Some infantry squads with autocannons (40 men = 280 pts)
Massive conscript blob (50 men = 150)

If you're thinking about a 500 point Pask detachment, this should come in at equivalent/fewer points and nets you ~100 ld 10 stubborn/fearless bodies. The idea is to increase your sticking power and combat your vulnerability to assault.

The conscripts are actually a passable combat unit and can make your valk vets a touch more durable thanks to being assault meat shields/a countercharge threat. I'd run the platoon command with them and just order move move move until you can get stuck in with something.

The commissar can stay with the infantry and keep a nice ld 10 core there to hold objectives. You could also take another priest to keep a second assault force available, but then you'd need to buy a command squad, which might not be ideal.

If you have free transport capacity, special weapons squads jumping out of vendettas with 3 demo charges is mean mean mean.

Ive considered that and it is a good idea.

Could bubble wrap Pask though, such as:
Allied detachment
680 pts
Pask punisher and executioner mate, lascannons and no sponsons
1 priest
Platoon, flamers on command squad and both squads have a flamers and autocannon
30-50 conscripts

Can you bring a knight as an ally?

If you dont short hand your list, Im not reading it.
Example: Assault Intercessors- x5 -Thunder hammer and plasma pistol on sgt.
or Assault Terminators 3xTH/SS, 2xLCs
For the love of God, GW, get rid of reroll mechanics. ALL OF THEM!

I love my Elysian Drop Valks. I usually run them with Inquisition allies.

My current list;
Spoiler:
Elysian Drop Troops
HQ
Elysian Company Command Squad (140pts) Carapace Armour, 4x Plasma Gun Vet
Elysian Company Command Squad (140pts) Carapace Armour, 4x Plasma Gun Vet

Troops
Elysian Veteran Squad (270pts) Grenadiers, 3x Meltagun Vet, 6x Veteran w/ Lasgun, Valkyrie w/ 2x Multiple Rocket Pods, Multi-laser
Elysian Veteran Squad (155pts) Grenadiers, 3x Plasma Gun Vet, 6x Veteran w/ Lasgun

Fast Attack
Imperial Navy Vendetta (130pts)
Imperial Navy Vendetta (130pts)

Inquisition
HQ
Ordo Malleus Inquisitor (144pts) Empyrean Brain Mines, Liber Heresius, Psyker (ML1), 3x Servo Skulls, Warlord, Terminator Armour, Nemesis Daemon hammer, Psycannon
Ordo Malleus Inquisitor (119pts) Psyker (ML1), 3x Servo Skulls, Terminator Armour, Nemesis Daemon hammer, Psycannon

Elites
Inquisitorial Henchmen Warband (170pts) Crusader, Mystic, Psyker, Valkyrie w/ 2x Multiple Rocket Pods, Multi-laser
Inquisitorial Henchmen Warband (170pts) Crusader, Mystic, Psyker, Valkyrie w/ 2x Multiple Rocket Pods, Multi-laser
Inquisitorial Henchmen Warband (170pts) Crusader, Mystic, Psyker, Valkyrie w/ 2x Multiple Rocket Pods, Multi-laser

Fast Attack (110pts)
Inquisitorial Valkyrie (110pts) Multi-laser, Two Multiple Rocket Pods

How this works out is I DS in the 3 inquisition valks turn 1 off of the servo skulls. The valks can DS in pretty accurately and then flat out to setup my DS for turn 2. On turn 2 I DS in the rest of the units off of the servo skulls and mystics. With a little luck on reserve rolls I can get command squads and Vet squads in together. The alpha strike for the command squads + inquisitors (prescience and psycannons) + Vets when combine with orders for ignore cover and tank hunters is nothing less than devastating. Against a 4 imperial knight list I can usually destroy 2 of them when my army comes in (I get the reroll reserves warlord trait a lot? It is weird). The inquisitors are usually attached to the command squads if I need to kill tough targets. If I need to split up my firepower more I attach them to the vets. The terminator armour and nemesis force hammers are a major factor in the army surviving the return fire. One of the big things that makes this list work though is score as you go missions. Without score as you go missions the opponent can turtle up and negate any alpha strike and turn the fight to a fight of attrition (which elysians will always loose).

I have this army completely painted so I haven't run my unpainted vulture with this but that would be a huge improvement in this list.

The other ally that works well IMO with elysians is a DKoK style artillery line. The artillery line holds your objectives, occupies board space, provides a durable first turn presence, and contributes to an alpha strike. The elysians can provide mobile scoring and problem solving plasma command squads. Honestly though SM and BA are probably a better combo for this.

Inquisition valks don't have Combat Drop though..

Think I'm going to play mono Elysians with maybe guard allies until updates start coming.

Space Marines are supposed to be getting a new codex and IA 8 is the next to be updated, so hopefully that comes this year too.

I emailed forgeworld and got a very definite count the inquisition valks answer. In Spoilers below.
Spoiler:
to Forge
So Codex Inquisition is out and it sparked some rules question on how it interacts with some of the imperial armour rules.

How do allied Valkyries work with the Elysian army list from Imperial Armour 3 second edition and the first turn deep strike of half your Valkyries? Specifically what does Army refer to?

If you take an Inquisitor in the new Inquisition allied slots does that fullfill the Red Hunters chapter tactics to allow them to be battle brothers with Grey Knights and Adepta Sororitas?

If you take a hades drill with attached engineer squads in the Death Korps of Krieg Siege Regiment army list can you attach independent characters to come up with them?

Thankyou for your help as always.

to me
Hi,
Thank you for your email. The answers to your questions are as follows -

1. When using the combat Drop rules, you total up all the Valkyries in your Army. This means all the Valkyries in the Elysian force and in any allied detachment Valkyries are totalled up and half of them arrive on the first turn.

2. Yes

3. You can attach an independent character to the Engineer squad to arrive with them and their Hades Breaching Drill

If there is anything further we can do to assist you, or if you have any queries about the information we have requested or provided, please telephone us.

Since its an IG army, it can take standard IG allies right? My book is in the mail if it is listed.

If you dont short hand your list, Im not reading it.
