I would like to start using cork for my bases but there are a few questions I would really appreciate some help with:
1. Any UK peeps have any recommended products? I am looking on Amazon and there's all sorts of thicknesses and names, not sure what type to buy.
2. Is it is best to PVA glue the cork to the base then super glue the model to the cork? Is pinning mandatory or does it just add that extra stability? Would just using Super glue be ok? Does it differ for resin models?
3. Should the base be sealed with something after painting? Any recommendations for this?
Thanks in advance, last thing I want to do especially with my first forgeworld models is to mess up their basing.

Hey!
1. Most craft stores will sell it in sheets for corkboards etc. In the US Michaels is pretty easy to find and well priced, not sure of a UK equivalent.
2. I generally superglue cork sheets to the base but for crumblies i would use PVA. Pinning is good because the cork is soft so if you glue it straight to it, anything more than easy gameplay handling will likely rip the model right off.
3. I just seal with thinned layer of elmers or PVA glue and it works well.
Just try stuff and find a look you like, bases are easy to come by so you'd really have to try to ruin a good model with it. Good luck!

UK jump on ebay.
Mine funnily enough came from the US! Free shipping on a £2.90 item but obviously took a about 10 days to arrive.

I bought a big roll on amazon, enough to last me years. Just make sure you don't get the kind with adhesive backing. I made that mistake initially, that was wasted money. This is the one I bought:
http://www.amazon.com/Quartet-Natural-Strip-Inches-103/dp/B003H93FFS/ref=pd_ys_sf_s_rp_a1_2_p?ie=UTF8&refRID=1B3BA004PNE2QCCSSPMY
Very thin (1/16"), so you can use it in layers easily.

Experiment on a bare 25 mm base first, just to get a feel.
1. I just buy it from a store. Hobby Lobby has big rolls of it.
2. Super glue is fine.
3. No sealant necessary.

Sweet, thanks all for the help, much appreciated.
Haha just checked ebay and loads come up didnt even think Argos would sell it.
I was about to ask something I forgot to mention first which was ideal thickness but thanks Egregious, so is around 1.6mm the ideal to create multiple layers? I will also watch out for the adhesive stuff.
I suppose a sealant will be needed since I will be using a lot of the martian ironearth and I guess it would break off easy?
Yeah going to practice first. I need to get a load of the Blood Angel Tactical sized bases so there are a load of bases spare.
Just had a look on HobbyCraft Hutber and there doesn't seem to be the proper rolls of it, only coasters. Seems ebay is the go to.

If this is your first time doing cork, please include some ballast and sand mixture and don't just go raw cork. I find just cork on the base (even painted well) doesn't look as good as a few extra additions. Adding some rocks, ballast, sand and bits really sell it, plus tufts afterwards.

amen to that ^ you can stick anything on it to compliment it..bits of wire make good rebar for concrete, chunks of sprue, stones, random bits of junk will all make it look like its not just a lump of ripped cork on your base.

I will keep that in mind, cheers! Never really used tufts before, any recommended products for the basing stuff? DarkSphere are selling army painter stuff which are cheaper than the GW equivalent, wonder if they are worth the buy.
Edit: Actually I was liking the look of some water effects and I understand most of it is just layers of PVA glue dried?

I use Woodland Scenics for water effects, but I hear some folks just use clear resin.
As for tufts, I order mine from Scenic Express. I find them on par quality wise with GW (or better), but a fraction of the price. I recommend Silflor.
