I've got a pretty big templar force, but I really like the fluff surrounding thousand sons and I'm looking into a smallish force of thousand sons.

I've never really made a chaos list before so here goes, C+C very appreciated.

HQ
Daemon prince
+Mark of Tzeentch
+3 levels of mastery
+wings
+power armour
+dark aura
+burning brand of skallathrax

Ahriman

Troops

3 x thousand sons marines - melta bombs and mutations on sorcerers.

Fast Attack

2 x Heldrake and baleflamer

1750 pts exactly

I appreciate this is potentially a pretty hard hitting list. I also dont want to be TFG is 2 heldrakes too many with an ap3 flying DP as well?

Helldrakes aren't as OP as they used to be, shouldn't be a problem,

I would want rhinos on those marines,.. hmm nothing jumps out as easy to cut,.. except the dark aura, princes come with a 5+ anyway.

Thanks for the speedy reply. I might try a game without the rhinos using proxied models, ahriman gives d3 units infiltrate so im hoping one to two units start closer up the board. But the more I think about it the more sensible it sounds as theres not alot on the board so they will be getting hammered.

would the rhinos also get the infiltrate?

Dedicated transports benefit from Infiltrate. Ahriman won't be able to Infiltrate with the squads however, so it would be worthwhile to give him a bodyguard and transport. Essentially, plan to Infiltrate two squads and let Ahriman deploy with the third. Or, drop a Heldrake for another unit for Ahriman, such as Obliterators, Terminators, etc.

I would drop the Gift of Mutations from the Aspiring Sorcerers.

Daemon prince
+Mark of Tzeentch
+3 levels of mastery
+wings
+power armour
+burning brand of skallathrax
+ichor blood

Ahriman

Troops

3 x 9 thousand sons marines - melta bombs on sorcerers.
rhino transports

Fast Attack

2 x Heldrake and baleflamer

2 infiltrating squads in rhinos
the third rhino with ahriman deploying normally

Well he can deploy Ahriman with a unit if he gets at least 2 infiltrating units. (Ahriman and then unit X)

I would suggest one unit of termies also, so 2 units of Tsons, 1 unit of termies. I know you lose mastery level, but you pick up some melta to aid in the anti tank.

You could also try to squeeze in an imperial bunker. Pending how many units you get to infilitrate, you can have one more unit walking out of the escape hatch also. Just get Ahriman within 18inches by end of movement, 3 shrieks from him is really really good.

Coincidently, if you place the bunker 23.9 inchs on the board, the bunker is a building which is considered out of line of site, so you can infiltrate 12" away from a unit.
This allows termies to get out from escape hatch and probably be in metla half range.

what about instead of terminators a squad of tzeentch meltagun chosen

HQ
Daemon prince
+Mark of Tzeentch
+3 levels of mastery
+wings
+power armour
+burning brand of skallathrax
+ichor blood

Ahriman

Troops

2 x 8 thousand sons marines - melta bombs on sorcerers.
rhino transports

Elite
2x tzeentch obliterators
Chosen - 4 meltaguns mark of tzeentch. Rhino transport

Fast Attack

2 x Heldrake and baleflamer

This would give me a bit more versatility I think

Meltagun Chosen are expensive for AT when you can take Havocs to do the same job. MoT isn't a poor option, but requires the use of keeping up a Blessing which grants an Invulnerable save or using a Skyshield (which renders your Meltaguns pretty pointless).

The primary challenges to Thousand Sons (there are many) are the reliability of AT and dealing with hordes. Summoning Daemons, tank saturation, or going mixed cults can all help with the limitations.

I like the idea from someone else using Power Mace Terminators and an Icon of Flame to deal with hordes. I just miss having Rubricae Terminators from 3rd/4th edition when they had two wounds.

My current design uses Ahriman to Infiltrate a unit of 17+1 Thousand Sons and Allied Heralds to provide Divination as a speed bump while Daemons are summoned.

I personally feel your points are better spent on termies than oblits and chosen. Chaos has the cheapest termies in the game, give them Tzeentch for 4++, give em all combi melta, and then throw a chain fist on one of em. The big thing is the 2 + armor save.

But you have to do it for the fluff or your personal choice mate, im just throwing a suggestion, not by any means saying one way is the correct way and one way is the wrong way.

Cheers and good luck.
2 heldrakes = good choice lol
