High all i thought i would share a house rule we have been useing since 7th dropped, its been tested and tweaked a lot since its original idea and here it is.

A unit may assault from any clossed top transport so long as the transport has not moved in the current turn, upon diembarking the unit must take an I test, if succesful the unit assaults normaly, if failed the unit makes a disordered charge.

Also we added a new unit type assault (infantry)
Assault infantry may rr 1d6 for thier charge range if it fails to contact an enemy unit, they may also consolidate into a fresh combat if they wipe out an enemy unit and run them down, this further assault cannot be affected by Overwatch, in addition if they consolidate into a fresh combat that contains another unit that has not fought yet, they may fight as normal, this can only be done once per player turn, the unit consolidating into combat counts as having made a disordered charge.

I like this, but you would have to boost Assault Vehicle rules. land raiders don't need nerfed more.

Take the OP's proposal and then change assault vehicle to also grant +1" to charge distance.

I went to Hershey Park in central PA this year, and I have to say I was more than a little disappointed. I fully expected the entire theme park to be make entirely of chocolate, but no. Here in America, we have "building codes," and some other nonsense about chocolate melting if don't store it someplace kept below room temperature.

No one has any little patches or fixes they have made to 40k, i find that odd ?

I just think it's too much of a buff, particularly the consolidating into combats. Sure, it'd help out some of my army, but I'd literally be able to wipe half of a shooting army in a single assault phase. Turn 2 my black knights charge your infantry, deal 15-20 wounds, your squad is almost guaranteed to fail their leadership. I have crusader on them, so run you down easily. Move to the next unit, can't overwatch, I wipe the next squad, wash rinse repeat. There goes 50 guardsmen like it's nothing. or 30 fire warriors, or whatever else you have that isn't particularly good against melee.

I want melee to be better than it is, but the powerhouse units that win combats every turn are now impossible to shoot if we're playing a decent sized game and you can't spread your units more than 6" apart.

It'd literally just discourage people even more from playing a lot of troops, they'd want to have a handful of elite units spread around the map better.

it works that way quite well actually

we have been doing this since 7th dropped and it encourages units not to castle up, and since the consolidate is only d6 (better with crusader) it isnt always guaranteed, we havent seen any proliferation in elite units since we have done it, infact we have seen a slight rise in CC armies effectivness, still die to shooting as normal, but have he edge when it comes to CC
