Kind of unluckily for me, I started using my Eldar, and having fun with them again, a few months ago. Then a month or so ago I learnt they were getting a new codex and started getting excited for it. So far I'm 5 for 5 with them, despite not really changing what I've used since I started playing with them early on in fifth, maybe even early fourth. One odd point is that I got into Eldar because I saw someone painting a jetbike, and loved the model, and then when playing with them, found I prefer guardians on the table, so I haven't bought any jetbikes. Any way, I designed this list to largely include the stuff I like playing with, until recently my first Wraithlord was still included, and now it seems like a game ruined for my opponent. Here's what I've been using:

Craftworld Warhost
Guardian Battlehost

Farseer

19 Guardians
Bright lance
Warlock

19 Guardians
Star cannon
Warlock

20 Guardians
EML EML
Warlock

Vyper
EML

War Walker
EML
EML

2 Vibrocannons

Wraithlord
EML
Brightlance

Dire Avenger Shrine
5 Dire Avengers
Wave Serpent
Twin Linked EML
Shuriken cannon

5 Dire Avengers

5 Dire Avengers

My plain has been to advance fairly quickly, running for cover where I can, while casting conceal on each of the guardian squads, and guide on the 20 man guardian squad. Is there anything I can do, which would make this more fun to play against, and yet is still fairly competitive?

I assume you will get wrecked against mobile armies and struggle hard against TAC builds. What you need is either a solid mobile element in your list or more long range shooting and even then your army is so fragile. In the first turn your opponent can concentrate on the heavier guns - Wraithlord, Wave Serpent, War Walker. Without them you have almost no damage output in 24" range.

Battle Focus is good but you can't avoid being charged if you just move up the table to the enemy which you plan due to the short ranged catapults.

Why so many EML? It's the most expensive choice and doesn't help you more than a Scatter Laser or a Bright Lance. By all means take the free EML on the Guardian squads but opt for another weapon elsewhere.

I play against a lot of DE, so switching to a brightlance is fairly redundant. And having the EML's mean that as many of the people play with at least one flyer, I have a shot of taking it down, unlike my Space Wolves who currently have no anti air.
One of the problems people seem to be having against it, is that I have a guaranteed 6" run, and throw enough dice at each conceal attempt it generally goes off, so most of the time I'm getting a 2/3+ cover save. Is it worth maybe abandoning the Craftworld Warhost detachment, along with the formation, and play as a CAD to try and tone this down a bit? I'm aware it's not the most powerful list Eldar could make, but I still want my games to be fun, and destroying 90% of my opponents force, while losing 30% ain't much fun for either of us

I really like the look of the Guardian battlehost, it has a very "epic space marine Eldar formation" feel to me. Nothing over the top, just a lot of units that you don't often see. I would like to see some scatter lasers in there for increased S6 output.

You must be playing against fluff bunnies, it's hard to get worse and not hand them the win.

Your guardian battle host is illegal anyway as you don't have a warlock conclave. Warlock squad upgrades don't count towards it.

And I really wouldn't be toning it down, it's pretty sub optimal across the whole list, you must be playing either very bad players, or very weak lists if you're finding it easy with this list.

You sought to cower behind your walls, weakling? Instead, by the will of Khorne, you shall die behind them

If you're going to commit to more than 10 guardians take the full 20 for the two platforms. 19 is silly. Your Avenger shrine is quite week with only 5 man squads.

EMLS are straight up terrible anti air. Id 100% remove them from everything.
I wish GW didnt include the ANti air option at all in the eldar book, its such a newb trap. But then again, their are many things I wish from GW and none of them ever come to fruition.

Also why Vibro instead of the muucccchhh better D cannons?

Id say you don't need the dire avengers in there. The guardians should all be 20 man strong. And why so many EMLs?

EML on gaurdians is fine, especially since they're free in the formation. EMLs on everything else is a waste of points. Specialize your units and they will be much more effective.
- Give your Warwalker either Bright Lances or Starcannons.
- Keep the Vyper stock or give a second shurikan cannon. Keep it cheap.
- The Dire Avenger shrine with a single Wave Serpent is odd. Either get rid of the Wave Serpent in favor of more bodies or get rid of the entire shrine in favor of an aspect host. An aspect host could provide you with counter assault options to prevent your guardian swarm from getting swept in combat.
- I'd take Shadow Weavers instead of Vibrocannons. Vibrocannons are single shots with 0 mobility. Shadow Weavers allow you to hide the unit and still be effective since the shots are barrage.
- The Wraithlord is ok but the points would probably be better spent on more warwalkers.

Does the formation let you take 2 free heavy weapons in a unit of 20? If so taking units of 19 is just straight up crazy talk.

Also might I suggest singing spears on your warlocks. For only 5 points they seem like a steal.

Yes. So by taking a squad of 19, you're giving up a heavy weapon and extra body for 9 points.

2 questions for ya:
How do you usually buff the guardians?

Care to turn the warlocks into seer council (not the formation)?

Suggestion:
Offer to play your WK like he was last book. That way your buddy doesn't get stomped (pun intended) and you get to play your expensive model.

Outflank your Warwalker. Helps with Line Breaker and pinching your enemy off the table edges.

If you dont want the aspect host you can always trade the avengers for rangers and the serpent for a night weaver, rangers have shrouded and good range for cheap while night weaver is barrage and torrent.
