Hi,

some of my friends have been thinking of getting into infinity, so i've been looking at the different factions and one of the ones that stands out is the highlander army. my main concern is, can i field a decent army with lots of claymores and make a good game of it?

I also like the looks of military orders and the steel phalanx. but i think highlanders with numbers and claymores would be my first pick.

Thanks everyone!

Welcome to the game!

I must admit I am no expert with regards to the Caledonian Highlander Army (or CHA) but I've been tempted to start it quite a few times so I can tell you some basic info,
good news:
Claymores are nearly everywhere
bad news: they are mostly on troops that are a bit obsessed with showing the enemy their new shiny claymore
terribad news: tartan is hard to paint

Now, to start I would suggest getting the CHA starter set, which contains useful troops that form a solid core to start a force, I would also suggest reading this unit breakdown (http://infinitytheforums.com/forum/index.php?/topic/29371-caledonian-sectoral-in-n3-a-unit-breakdown/) on the official forums because it is quite good and knowing about what each unit does best will probably help you choose a playstile, because unless you want a strong, disciplined firebase claymores can do nearly everything.

Oh, who am I trying to lie to, you've probably already bought Billy the Kid, or William Wallace as some call him, and you may also have your eye put on the upcoming Galwelgian box, now with famous actor faces and stuff,
Spoiler:

you can lie to me but you can't lie to yourself.

It's all fine, they are useful choices, but read the unit breakdown before impulse-buying the rest of the faction or you may find yourself with more Mormaers than you can play , yes, I know its hard to stop but please, try.

You may be a mind reader.... and thank you for the link, I will take a read through it. My initial plan is to buy the CHA starter and the galwegian 45th highlander rifles, cause of the claymore pose....I may be that obsessed with swords lol.

William Wallace goes well with highlanders. Making all those irregular troops regular (albeit for the price of having a super obvious lt)

Caterans are devilishly cheap snipers with limited camo and a decent (for ariadna) BS. Adding to the swords you can throw in some werewolves in kilts (really subtle in their approach to maiming - run up with smoke until they get near, then give people the choice to dodge and let you get nearer, or eat 2 chain rifles - really easy to mess with the heads of link teams lol)

If you want a solid fire awe, the mormaer is hard as. arm 5, BS13 dogged AP HMG what is not to like.

Another good asset is McMurrogh. He can be taken in CHA and is a beast at killing tags and smashing stuff with his AP-DA sword, at Ph16 (iirc) and martial arts 3. Makes a sweet mess of almost anything up close.

Some nice link team options as well, Scots guard are nice an robust, and if you feel silly, you can either link highlanders with Wallace or take a link of Wulvers. Not sensible, but hella funny.

Specialists are cheap, with volunteer paramedics, or good with SAS observers to sneak objectives early on. Lack of visors are a problem, but abundance of smoke and sharp pointy things can more than make up for it.
