Kurov's Aquilla give preferred enemy to all friendly guard models in 6". Can I use this to mitigate "gets hot" from my plasmacutioners?

No, rolling scatter is done instead of rolling To Hit, therefore it is impossible to roll a 1 To Hit.

Yes, all that blasts care about is if you have a re-roll, therefore, it works, otherwise the only way to re-roll blasts is with Twin-linked.

40k RB, pg 164, "Gets Hot -> Gets Hot and Re-rolls, bottom right of box": ... it may also re-roll Gets Hot results of 1 for weapons that do not roll To Hit.


So, if you read the rules, Preferred Enemy allows you to reroll 1's for weapons such as Plasma Cannons, per the Gets Hot rules at the end of the box. It also happens to help with those pesky 1's To Wound, which makes it awesome.

PE doesn't help with the scatter results, but can help you to avoid Gets Hot penalties.

What about if the unit inside that was firing the obliterator was AM?

The obliterator isn't.

It's factionless.

But the AM unit which is firing it is from the AM dex. So if they get given PE, and then they fire the oblierator then they would get to re-roll 1's, as it is the AM unit which is doing the firing. Just as they would get to re-roll ones on other emplaced weapons such as an icarus lascannon. Or just like the obliterator gaining ignores cover from a vindicare assassin as it is the vindicare that is doing the shooting.
