Hey, I wanted to know what paints I need to capture the red color painted on the models in the GW previews, like these:
http://www.games-workshop.com/resources/catalog/product/600x620/99120101122_BATacticalSqdSergGravPistolMR360.jpg

The BA painting books techniques seem very dark compared to those presented here. I can't tell but it seems like Mephiston Red, then Evil Sunz Skarlet, then some orange highlighting, right?

Any other colors that capture a similar color would be nice. I wouldn't mind buying Vallejo paints either. (wish I did a while ago)

I think this color seems good because it'd help make metallics stand out without the red taking up too much credit.

Until there's better scans for the WD paint chart/poster thingy- I suggest going from this set of images.

Spoiler:

TLDR:

For the red, Base Mephiston Red--> Wash Carroburg Crimson --> Layer Evil Suns Scarlet --> Layer Wild Rider Red. For the black, Base Cha- Abbadon Black --> Wash Nuln Oil (Truly, it is the god of washes) --> Layer Dark Reaper --> Layer Thunderhawk.

For the red, I do Mephiston Red, then highlight with Evil Suns Scarlet and a final hightlight of Firedragon Bright. It's what they show in some White Dwarves, and all of them are in their official "Blood Angels Paint" bundle, so I assume it's how they do it.

Here's one of my Space Hulk minis for comparison.

The Tale of Painters blog has a good tutorial on Blood Angels:
