Subject: Dreamforge Valkir heavy troopers: The best Sisters counts-as yet?

I just saw http://www.lounge.belloflostsouls.net/showthread.php?52847-Non-GW-Plastic-Sisters-of-Battle&p=475852&viewfull=1#post475852 this sisters of battle conversion using the new heavy troopers from Dreamforge Games and I must say I'm absolutely blown away by how good it looks.
And then I looked into the rest of the dreamforge stuff. And they have Dominions ( http://dreamforge-games.blogspot.com/2014/07/valkir-heavy-support-troopers.html) and they have Repentia ( http://dreamforge-games.com/collections/everything/products/eisenkern-valkir-assault-trooper). And given that the price of the base troopers is nearly half GW pricing, and the price of the support and assault troopers is about equivalent, all you've got to do is get some female headswaps of your choice, MAYBE give them GW weapons (honestly I think their guns look way, way better and easily read as flamers/meltas on some of the sculpts, and that's good enough for me) and boom, fully poseable female sisters of battle, for at or below standard GW pricing on the normal models.
I've used a squad of the regular Stormtroopers before from these guys for my IG stormtroopers (couldn't stand the new MT models honestly) and found they worked pretty awesome as up-armored guardsmen. But this just blows me away. I've never been more tempted to start up a Sisters of Battle army.

"Got you, Yugi! Your Rubric Marines can't fall back because I have declared the tertiary kaptaris ka'tah stance two, after the secondary dacatarai ka'tah last turn!"
"So you think, Kaiba! I declared my Thousand Sons the cult of Duplicity, which means all my psykers have access to the Sorcerous Facade power! Furthermore I will spend 8 Cabal Points to invoke Cabbalistic Focus, causing the rubrics to appear behind your custodes! The Vengeance for the Wronged and Sorcerous Fullisade stratagems along with the Malefic Maelstrom infernal pact evoked earlier in the command phase allows me to double their firepower, letting me wound on 2s and 3s!"
"you think it is you who has gotten me, yugi, but it is I who have gotten you! I declare the ever-vigilant stratagem to attack your rubrics with my custodes' ranged weapons, which with the new codex are now DAMAGE 2!!"
"...which leads you straight into my trap, Kaiba, you see I now declare the stratagem Implacable Automata, reducing all damage from your attacks by 1 and triggering my All is Dust special rule!" |

Personally, I think the Valkir are too big for Sisters, but Dreamforge is still the answer:
These minis with headswaps, bolters, sculpted tabards and a few well-placed parchments will do the job admirably.

See, I looked at those, but they're about the same size/general shape as the Eisenkerns and sisters are quite a bit bulkier than that in metal. The Valkir come with the big shoulderpads, the knight-style armor curiass (in place of boobplate) and a cloth tabard skirt-bit. Also, they come with very recognizable meltagun and flamer counts-as weapons that I think look much better than GW's clunky designs. They look big in comparison to the eisenkerns but the trouble is that Dreamforge doesn't follow GW's....interesting proportions, so those look a bit reedy even next to guardsmen since their arms and heads aren't absolutely HUGE in comparison to their bodies, and their guns aren't cartoonishly blocky. Valkir, while they are super bulky, fit the 40k aesthetic quite well and clock in at just a bit smaller than a space marine, which is perfect for a battle sister.

The more I see, the more tempted I am. The one thing that kills it for me is this image
Even on a lower base, that guy is still somewhat taller than a Space Marine in the typical stance. That said, though, the Statuesque heads seem to sit a little lower in the torso than those helmets, so maybe it wouldn't be at noticeable...
What is certain is that the converted Valkir do look awesome, I'm just slightly concerned about how they'll look alongside my vast quantities of Space Marines
