I'm thinking about trying out the stormboyz formation and thought of the following loadout - 3 squads of 10+PK Nobs join with Zagstruk in one big unit. So we have a max normal squad of stormboyz with 3 nobz and Zagstruk to eat chalanges, plus he gives ld8. Any ideas on this loadout?

Not much left to discuss. Stormboyz are an assault unit. They are essentially slugga/choppa boyz with jump packs with no weapon upgrades, no need. At only 9ppm (cheaper then an Ork Boy in Eavy Armour) in 7th edition they are now the next cheapest unit then the basic troops; grots and boyz. Treat them like choppa boyz that move twice as fast and take them in numbers. Burying 3 PKs in there is nice, being the swiss army knife of the Orks. The Nobz in this unit also don't get ranged upgrades if you noticed so there's nothing left to take but the BP. Get the BP. Stormboyz have t-shirt saves and with no option to improve so they are squishy and you can lose %25 of these guys just as easily as normal footslogging boyz. In fact always be aware that these guys are just as squishy as basic Ork Boyz. They can have an early assault in the game but if you do that leaving them solo they will be decimated without support. If you got some vehicles and units that can run nearby them then sure an early assault is great reducing incoming ranged attacks. Otherwise another good way to run em is deploy them in the rear and keep em in the rear and out of range of enemy fire for the beginning. They will shine for the last 3 turns when model counts on boths sides are low and both players are scrambling for positions and objectives with what little they have left.

Yeh I like the formation and am building up to it myself. I think you've got a nice amount of bodies in there. Perosnally I am going to start with 15 boyz (3 units of 5, with Nob, PK, BP) with Zagg. Idea being to bring them in as a deepstrike to cut off exits when my other units are rushing in.

Then eventually id like to run a 30 strong like you, but for that i'd move it up the table rather than DS. 3 PKs should mean you can cut down most things in assault, or use the boyz as a great multi-charge tie up unit.

I'd recommend going for more. Unlike regular stormboyz, this ones come from Ghazzy supplement and have +2 on mob rule. Ld8 ain't helping too much. If you fail it, get ready to run away.

Another thing is that you might want a painboss somewhere neqrby jumping up to them and joining a squad to prolong their life a bit.

hmm very interesting point. Would suck balls watching them flee first turn

Im wondering. using the horde or a standard CAD, MSU stormboyz? They are a pretty cheap unit all in all, pretty well versed too. With a PK they can hunt armour and units who may not like combat. Plus in general its the nob doing most of the heavy work. I mean I cant remember the last time my nobz haven't easily made their points back if not most of the squads.

I totally agree about the PainBoy on bike, except that make him dedicated to the squad. Who cares if he's the slowest? You want him in back anyways. 5++ to anything Str 7 and below AFTER any cover save will help keep them on the table longer.

Note that the formation's mobs must enter by deep strike, so be careful because 30 stormboyz is quite a large foot print.
Even with 'Dead on target..ish' , choose the landing location with care.

And RUN! you certainly don't want to give him a reason to pie you as hard as he can Out of interest (as I don't have my dex at hand), can the stormboyz use the special run move on the turn they DS? so they can spread a lot better?

Yes but only if the squad is fully composed of models with packs.

As for MSU stormboyz, you don't need the formation for them. Actually, codex stormboyz do MSU better due to mob rule modifications in supplement.

No thats what I meant codex stormboyz for MSU. Just thinking how effective having potentially 5x5man stormboyz units moving to secure objectives and hunt down units they can handle. Or pitch in with combats where needed. I know they will fall to a stiff breeze, but even just a nob and a single boy can cause major damage if left unchecked,

Funny I have the opposite view: If you play Msu like 3x 5 Boyz, then the mob rule won't change much (if 2 or 3 left, as good as dead).
In that case I would go with the formation, to get shred and accurate deep strike

I'd probably just stick to ~10.
5 is a bit too low. Remember, you're gona take losses from dangerous terrain, overwatch and most likely higher enemy ini. But it's sure worth trying.

I do know what you mean, at 5 you are very close to taking checks from only a casualty or two. Plus at 9ppm you can simply add another few boyz for not a lot.

I intend to make 15 over the next couple weeks, so I think I will just then try a few combos. Im thinking on a couple I won't even bother with a nob (as in when running a few games). As that way your looking at something that's almost the same price as a grot squad, but has some serious mobility for objectives. But then again a deffcopta is probably even more able

Hmm choices choices!

I'd still take a nob. He's a steal for 10 pt. Can even give him a bigchoppa. Still cheap enough.
