So which or who is the strongest dreadnought?

Bjorn the Fell-handed looks pretty strong with 6 WS/BS and some decent shooting to use that BS6. 13 AV and 5++ means he's hard to take down and an ok close combat weapon.

Bray'Arth Ashmantle is pretty beastly too, hard to put down with IWND, AV 13, Extra Armor, Smoke, Venerable, 4 HP, and Wrought by Vulkan makes him hard to use anti-vehicle against him. Not to mention you don't want to charge him with the flamers and he hurts in CC with his wrath.

People talk a lot about the forgeworld dreads as being broken, but I'm not real sure about them (there's so many!).

I don't have the C:SM book but I'm sure they have some strong dreads too.

So, who is the strongest dreadnought?

I think the Mhara Gal is better than Bjorn.

It, too, has AV13 5++, but it also has IWND, 4 HP and a swathe of special rules to aid its mobility, resilience, and damage.

And in case you're fighting a foe vulnerable to Fear and morale, well... It does that too.

It has its price, and it is far from overpowered, but it's useful and it's strong.

Of course, the strongest is probably Bray'arth Ashmantle or some other loyalist that I do not know the exact rules of. Or better yet, a loyalist Contemptor Mortis, as shooting is better than melee.

Mhara Gal dreads are awesome, I've used them a few times recently in 30k games, down side is the pts cost.

as far as pts per kills go I must say BA dreads in BSF with +1 ini on the charge are nasty, even worse when its a lib dread with the quickening on it.

150pt Lib dread, AV13 3-6 S10 ap2 attacks at ini 5-8 usually beats most other dreads 1 on 1.

Ancient Tahncred still endures!

Oh, I'm not allowed to use fa/tg/uy in-jokes? Well, then, buster- Librarian Dreadnoughts. Furiosos with psychic powers, save the Fragioso bit (6e Libby Dreadnought was the gak, alright?).

The thing about 40k is that no one person can grasp the fullness of it.

Now I'm curious what you had to edit out :p

Tancred Endures and gets all the "ladies."

Mhara Gal are awesome... in 30k, but didn't seem to be strong enough to survive 10k more years.

Knight Titans are the toughest Dreadnoughts in the game that are still technically vehicles. Wraithlords started off as Eldar Dreadnoughts, complete with pilots, before going all Ghosty, which leaves the WraithKnight as the last of the original Dreadnoughts. And the toughest of them all.

Well, the current Imperial Knights are not actually Dreadnoughts, so I'd argue they are disqualified.

The Furioso Dreadnought is pretty nice for its points. You can trade one of their arms for the awesome Frag Cannon. The Furioso Contemptor would, likewise, be pretty good. If they made a Death Company Contemptor, it would be amazing. The Furioso Librarian Dreadnought can Force smash you into orbit.

The Contemptor and Deredeo are both quite good.

Id go with Hecaton Aikos. The Minotaurs contemptor dread who gets a 4++ from shooting attacks and 5++ in melee. 3 attacks on the charge and has fleet. Has a plasma cannon and storm bolter for shooting so he isnt too bad

I'm going to jump in on the side of Ashmantle.

This guy is awesome. immune to melta, IWND, flamers/MM combo means you can choose what weapon depending on who you are firing at.

Also he has the ultimate defense against being swarmed by ork boyz and a PK nob. He can inflict an automatic hit on all models in base contact instead of swinging. Most dreads would get bogged down in only killing 1.5 per turn, but with this he can kill way more!

He can handle all sorts of situations. Flaming infantry, meltagunning vehicles, killing hardcore powerhouses in cc, or killing hordes in cc. He also has much better defense.
