Subject: [1850] - Dark Eldar - Which list should I choose? #goingmental
Got 3 potential army lists. Each completely unique. Which army list has your favor and more importantly why as I'm no longer sure which I should choose, because they all seem potentially fun in their own way, but I've got only money for 1 list.
This is me right now:
1st Army Concept: (Jack Of All Trades - Master Of None)
this one is (visually) the most pleasing in terms of diversity; preventing me from going bored with a certain type of playstyle
2nd Army Concept: (Immortal Blob of Impending Doom)
i can't stress enough how much i visually love these models. Webway Portal Template Terror + 5 Talos and 2 Wrack-filled, Disintegrator Cannon shooting and Torment Grenades launching Raiders supported by the Cronos for 4+ FNP
Wracks [3x Wracks]
Acothyst [Hexrifle]
Wrack with Special Weapon [Ossefactor]
Raider [Nightshield, Torment Grenade Launcher]
Wracks [3x Wracks]
Acothyst [Hexrifle]
Wrack with Special Weapon [Ossefactor]
Raider [Nightshield, Torment Grenade Launcher]
3rd Army Concept: (Potential Tournament Winner)
in terms of winning, i can't come up with a better army than this one as, in its simplicity, it has an answer to everything, but I'm afraid that this simplicity might become boring regardless of possibly winning every match with this setup
Spoiler:

++ Combined Arms Detachment (1850pts) ++
+ HeadQuarters (680pts) +
Court of the Archon (340pts) [10x Sslyth]

Grotesquerie, Dark Artisan, and Corpsthief are easily the best thing going for DE besides being rent-a-portal/raider for their Craftworld brethren.
I see we agree completely in terms of them being the coolest thematically, but I am curious as to why you consider this list to be the most competitive!
I'm not going to argue as I think I like this list the most, but I'm under the impression that the 3rd list should make it a lot easier to win.
The 60 4+ poisoned shots with rerolls coming from the Sslyth carrying Raiders are a bane to any monstrous creature. The 3 Venom's filled with 12 Blasters and 3 Haywire Grenades are a nightmare to any vehicle.
The razorwing flock is extremely useful to tie up enemies so that I can continue to prioritize killing monstrous creatures and vehicles, all the while I kill the remaining infantry with the 3 troop choices.
And everything is extremely mobile if needed.
That being said, I'm seriously considering the 2nd list. Also thank you for replying!

The 3rd list is very similar to what I ran to win tournaments......in 5th edition.
By no means is your 2nd list a top tier list, it just implements formations used in top tier lists.
A good strategy for example would be a scouting corpse thief that requires your opponents attention while a cad filled with fast msu objective secured takes objectives since the corpse thief attracts fire. Of course venoms provide plenty of fire support as well.
Automatically Appended Next Post: I also want you to consider what MC ' S your poison is effective against. Riptides have 2+ saves, mist nids these days fly, and wraithknights are gc.

Aftermath can be calculated.

Well actually despite their 2+ save, 60 poisoned shots, according to mathhamer, cause 4,444 wounds. Though my Corpseclaw unit costs about the same and does twice the amount of dmg.
As fas as my list not belonging to top tiers; I can live with that. At first I just wanted to play w40k again because these Coven models look so damn fine.
If I can do just an acceptable amount of winning, I think I can be fairly happy and going with a completely Coven themed army looks like its going to be fun.
The Wracks aren't that good, i`m aware of this, but I just like the models
