I think this would be really cool, not sure how to do it though

I'm not sure either as to how to do it. My thought is to spray it a medium brown and dapple it with a light brown. Then paint the spots with the light brown and keep layering it to nearly white. If you want the wet look water down white glue 3:1 or 4:1 and brush on a layer or more. Then use white with just a touch of blue, layered to nearly white for the reflective "spots". I recommend testing it on a the sprue or something first.

It looks like it would be intresting to do except not sure how well it would look on them with there belly carapace.

What you would need to do is paint the whole thing brown
paint the belly tan

then put spots all over with tan

then spray the whole thing with a gloss varnish.

A broken airbrush needle?

Salt/hairspray?

Brush flicks?

Brush flicks might be the way to go actually - paint it brown, add tan spots, half load a brush with tan and drag it back with your fingers so it flicks back at the job.

I did something similar with a SM in my gallery (with blood for the blood god) - it wasn't really obvious enough with that, but would be perfect for this.

I think the spots are big enough that you could just paint it on with a brush.

but to get that wet look, a gloss varnish will work very well i think. (bonus for extra tough coating )

Look at the even smaller speckles, though, the pale brown texture to the overall flesh. That's the trickier part.

That looks quite a lot like my Kroot colour scheme, although I only put the 'spots' on the forehead and spine.

Scorched Brown base coat, Beastial Brown drybrush, then a Vermin Brown spot followed by a Bleached Bone highlight on the spot.

I honestly can't imagine if it would look good or not. I wonder if you could go with a lighter brown base, then spray the dots on, since they seem to have a bit of a gradient. and then maybe go with a brownish wash of the non dot areas?

Or first spray the lighter dots from a distance away. I know a rattle can would let the paint kind of drop onto the model in a similar pattern. and then maybe wash and paint on the larger dots

Looks a bit similar to what I did too, years ago. A test Kroot based on the daspletosaurus (the foreground dino) in this pic. (Kind of a washed out version of the image, but you get the gist. And I'm surprised the mini photo is still online.

I think the question of the frog's colour is whether Linus wants to replicate the speckled effect. If not, then it's a pretty straightforward case of a standard brown worked up from shade to highlight, then spots added and worked up the same. If so, then I think stippling the brown might be the answer, and it goes a bit outside my experience; although I'd try something like this gold tutorial, but with appropriate colours, and perhaps a less chewed-up brush. A lot of different types with stiff bristles might do, but for the kind of distinct speckles on the frog I think one of those dead cheap brushes with thick, black plastic bristles might be useful. (Like these, but cut down a lot more.) Don't quote me, though.

ehhhhh, I think the challenge will lie in the fact the frog has a big, broad back on which the spots are nice and obvious, the Kroot are all skinny, and I think that may make the bodies look quite crowded.

Weeell... poison dart frogs are no Jabba the Hutt, and Kroot aren't Mantic Elves. I'd say the bigger problem might be the wrappings about the Kroot torso, hiding a lot of the surface.

The frog, BTW, after a wee bit of searching, is Excidobates mysteriosus, the Marañón poison frog.
