Subject: Is the Macro Canon on an Aquila strongpoint an emplaced weapon, or just part of the building?

As the title says, do you think the macro cannon on an Aquila Strongpoint is an emplaced weapon that can be targeted independently of the building, or is it just a part of the building, sort of like weapons on vehicles are?
If anyone has evidence one way or another, I'd appreciate page citations.
Also, where would a model need to be to shoot it? Inside the building, or in base-to-base with the gun on the battlements? I've heard people talking about shooting it from inside the building, but from what I understood, unless emplaced weapons were modeled to be poking out a window/slot/hatch or something, you had to be in base contact with the weapon to fire it. For instance, the quad gun that you can buy with a bastion can be placed up to 6 inches away from the bastion, and you'd have to be in base contact with it to fire it. I'd assume the same would be true if you put the quad gun on the battlements. As the macro cannon is mounted on the battlements of the aquilla strongpoint, is there anything that makes it different, and able to be fired from inside the building?
Since it's modelled the way it is, I could easily see it being able to be fired either way, so I'd personally be fine with it being able to be fired by both, but in the event of contested control of the building(ie, one player controls the battlements and another occupies the building), I'd say the occupants of the building would probably have primary control of the cannon.

If it's an emplaced weapon, it can only be fired by occupants of the building. How it is modelled is irrelevant.
I haven't seen its latest rules, so I can't say one way or another whether it is... although it seems likely.

Is the stronghold datasheet no longer current? I've based my awnsers on that datasheet.
Anyway your poll is really asking two different question. Can we shoot at just the cannon and not the strongpoint and can units not embarked in the strongpoint fire the cannon. The answer to both is no. The Cannon is part of the strongpoint in the same way a bastion's heavy bolters are part of the bastion. I can't choose to target just the weapon, I'm not even sure what profile I would use if I did. The weapon is an emplaced weapon. The datasheet is black and white on that, and an emplaced weapon is never a weapon emplacement. The rule book is very clear on who can fire emplaced weapon.

Yes, the poll is asking 2 questions, which is why you have the option to give 2 answers. 1 for each question.
The latest rules for the aquilla strongpoint are in stronghold assault, and yes, the rules vary slightly. As for not being able to shoot emplaced weapons, are you able to shoot a quad gun that is taken by an aegis defense line? Is that not an emplaced weapon, or am I missing some subtlety in wording?
EDIT: Ok, so I think I've found it. Quad guns and Icarus lascannons are considered "Gun Emplacements" which specifically can be attacked and have a profile identical to artillery pieces. Other "Emplaced Weapons" are treated as a part of the building, and can't be attacked seperately. Similar wording between "Emplaced Weapons" and "Gun Emplacements" is to blame for the confusion. So, while gun emplacements must be fired by a model in base contact with the emplacement, all "Emplaced Weapons" are fired by occupants of the building, NOT the battlements, even if said emplaced weapon is on the battlements.

correct. And to further compound the issue if you buy a gun emplacement as an upgrade option for a building and then place that gun emplacement on the battlements of said building it stops being a gun emplacement and becomes and emplaced weapon for that building instead.
This fairly straightforward, until you get into Fortification networks. Lets say we have a fortification network that consists of a bastion and a defense line. For the defense line we buy a quadgun emplacement and for the bastion we buy a lascannon emplacement. Now If we set up the quadgun and the lascannon on the battlements of the bastion some players will argue that both weapons are now emplaced weapons for the bastion. Other players will argue only the lascannon is an emplaceed weapon because only the lascannon is being set up on the battlements of the building it was bought for and while the quadgun is on the battlements it was not bought for the bastion so it remains a gun emplacment.

Could you give a page citation showing this to be the case? I cannot find anything that says that.

Can't give you a page from digital Book, but the section is:
Terrain Types
Buildings
Emplaced Weapons
Gun Emplacement Upgrades
Just before the "claiming buildings" section

How would you all relate this to the Vengeance Weapon Battery? Is the whole thing one Weapon Emplacement?
Can it be manually fired if in base contact?
Being Impassible, the enemy can't enter it which means they can't claim it. But can they Manually Fire it if it's claimed by you?

Nothing in it rules change how it functions. It is still just a building with an emplaced gun (not a gun emplacement). You can only manually fire emplaced guns by being inside a building (which you can;t do in a VWB) Its pretty clear.
