New to wh40k here. Started with Tyranids, and sold my army to switch to Orks. I bought some Ork Nobz sprues (all 3 ) for $10, but it didn't have the instructions to create the models. I figured it out, but there is a killsaw bit, and I cannot find anywhere in the codex where it states that a nob can use a killsaw. Reading around on the internet, I found that there is actually bits to make a painboy as well, but I cannot find anything regarding how to make one aside from butchering the model itself. It also has bits to make a 'Cybork' apparently. I cannot find that in the codex either.

Any help is appreciated

The beauty with Orks is we can use our imagination. With a little work he can be a painboy, or the saw can be a "Power klaw" Its easy enough to say before a game "dat guy with the saw, he is my painboy" or "dat saw is an ork power klaw" Very few players will make an issue of it.

The saw bit was in the kit before the killsaw was even a piece of wargear. At the time it was used as either a PK or a plain CCW. These days I guess if you're building a big mek you could claim that it's a killsaw fairly easily, no killsaws for nobs though.

I'm beginning an Ork collections too. When it comes to kit bashing Orks will provide plenty of bitz and gubbinz so get creative. Only time a Nob can use a Killsaw is if he is a MANz and uses two at the same time which allows him to get the extra attack for using two melee weapons (in this case two specialist melee weapons). If you ever run a MANz unit then always put one of these guys in, at least one. But heck if you see all the Big Choppas then you will notice some have saws on them too so the little killsaw can probably even double as a cool looking choppa.

Yep! Thats what I love about Orks. There is no wrong way to do it.

The Nobz kit is pretty strange. There is absolutely no rules at all for the "harpoon" arm. It's definitely a case where the modeling aspect of the hobby trumps the game.

As others suggest, just be clear when you play what is what. I bought some old nobz on ebay and one has the drill arm, which I use as a PK.

Well, first off man you really don't need to worry too much about getting every bit of kit exactly right with your Orks. If you plonk that 'killsaw' (that bit was around before the new codex came out and killsaws were even a thing) on a Nob and call it a powerklaw then no one will argue.

The rule of cool almost always always prevails, so don't stress too much about making everything WYSIWYG. I used that killsaw arm to make a Mek I think.

With regards to making a Painboy, I can't remember off the top of my head if there's any dedicated parts in the Nobz kit for making a Painboy but, don't let that stop you scratch building something. If that means 'butchering' the model then so be it man! Half of becoming a competent scratch builder is daring to rip up kits and do your own thing. If you got the sprues for $10 then even more reason not to fear!

Orks don't follow rules.

I made a painboy from the buzzsaw arm. I used a head with a mask from the burna kit and an arm from a defcopta or biker with a gun and a bit of wire for the syringe.

Like others have said anything goes with Orks as long as it looks cool. In some waqys I kind of like my custom painboy better than the official GW one. I actually just got another "official" painyboy, so my custom guy got a promotion to Mad Doc. (Kind of hard to see the saw in the pic, but it is there.)

Thanks everyone for the responses. I'm trying to stick with the WYSIWYG as much as possible, but I'm finding hardly anyone cares about it (Not as important as it was stressed to me). On a side note: The older Ork Nob kits said it contained bits to make a Painboy out of one of your nobz. Probably before they made an official one kinda like Tyranid Prime/Shriek.

Again, Thanks to everyone
