Subject: Toning down the "D"

I am sure there are other threads proposing how to re-balance Str D weapons, but I could not find any that dealt with 7th ed (most were about Escalation).
So I think that 7th ed did a great thing by making the 2-5 results on the D table less scary (by allowing saves and only doing D3), but I think the "6" result still needs to be addressed. Now that D is in regular games, I don't see why we need a rule that just vaporizes any unit on a lucky roll. I like the "no saves of any kind" on a "6", but doing 6+D6 wounds/hull points is overkill.
It is not fun to have your 400+pt unit just disappear (unless you are playing Apoc). I propose that the D table stay as it is, but the "6" result only do D3+1 wounds/hull points, with no saves. This will mean that "on average" most vehicles will die, but there is a chance they wont. It also gives the slim chance to kill bigger stuff like Land Raiders or Soul grinders. Imperial Knights and other super heavies will be seriously hurt, but will only die outright if previously damaged.

I'd rather see the 2-5 toned down, too. Honestly, the game doesn't need fewer things that can handle IKs.
That said, I wouldn't mind if a '6' was more of a 2d6, or even 1+1d6.

One thing that might be interesting is, in addition to calming down the rest of the chart, if some units had a degree of of resistance to getting Destoroyah'd.
I mean, yes The D is suposed to be very powerful weapons, but it doesn't make as much sense (to me, at least) that a Superheavily armored unit like a BANEBLADE or one protected by energy fields and superalloys like the Knight, or a full Titan. Maybe when one of these targets is hit by The D, it rolls on the chart at a penalty. For example, is the penatly was -1, a roll of 3-6 would be -D3 or -D3+1 HP, a roll of 2 would be a pen, and a 1 would do nothing,

I maintain the solution for D-weapons is to remove them from 'standard' 40k, re-introduce Apoc for D-weapons to play around with, and then make D-weapons a fixed result/remove the table and just have a fixed damage profile.

Yeah, maybe in regular games, strength D could simply mean S10 with the Instant Death special rule, and does d3 hull points to vehicles.

Which is already a lot more reasonable. The D3 hullpoints I'm iffy on, but its an improvement.
