Subject: First attempt at Object Source Lighting, and glowing eyes. Opinions?

Greetings everyone.
I'm currently working on a side project of some Deathwatch squads along side my Vostroyan Imperial Guard. I've already completed a captain, along with a good handful of tactical and veteran marines for this Deathwatch force. I've currently started on the Deathwatch Librarian and wanted some feedback on the Object Source Lighting, along with the glowing eye effect I've attempted. I watched several tutorials on the techniques and am fairly pleased with the results, but I may be missing something important that a more seasoned painter with more experience with these techniques might be able to impart.
That said, here are the pictures.
Without the head attached, and here is the head glued in after finishing the eyes and back-lit head separately.
I went with the green because more often than not this model is going to be wielding his force axe and storm shield with biomancy powers, and I felt that green best represented how he manifested his abilities. I'm not sure I pulled off the glowing eye effect as well as some on here, but for a first attempt I'm not too upset with it. I REALLY like how the back-lit head and psychic hood came out personally, but I would love to know how to improve in the future should I ever tackle another Librarian.
I'll be posting finished pictures of this model in my existing Deathwatch thread on here, but wanted specific help and feedback on the OSL and eyes to a similar extent.
Thank you all for your time if you made it this far, and I appreciate any critiques given in advance as well.
Take it easy for now.

Looks really good so far.
I would recommend adding some of the OSL even if its just a little to the front rim of the armor and maybe a bit on the top of the box looking thing on the front.

I wondered about if that would look off or not, which is why I've left it as is for now. I figured that his head would 'block' some of the light from the psychic hood cast from directly behind his head, and that would in essence shadow the front of the armor. the only glowing part that isn't coming from behind his head are his eyes, and I don't want them to seem like they're casting too much light, but just glowing with the same green from behind his head.
I'll try and add some very light glowing effects further around to the front of the collar and see how it looks. I appreciate the input, as this was one thing I wasn't sure of. I.E.: How far forward to carry the OSL effect, with the origin of the object casting the light being situated at the back of and behind the Librarian's head.
More progress will be posted as I make it. Will be doing more glowing effects on the runes of his armor in the same green shade, as well as his force weapon (going to try for an energy arcing effect, may do some limited OSL on his arm/shoulder and base as well. I don't want to go overboard with the effect and have it ruin the effect of the hood and his eyes).
Hope to get more input. Much obliged for the feedback Darefsky.
Take it easy.

Where exactly is the light behind his head coming from? Those vertical ribs in his armour? If so, I would highlight them up to almost white. I would leave off the light in the front though as per your point about his head being in the way and crating shadows. It looks good though. I just think you need a bit more gradient.

I've got the ribs/veins behind his head, that are what I think are the origin of the energy/light being cast, highlighted up to a slight shade brighter than Warboss Green (which is the lightest shade of green I have on hand here) by mixing a touch of white with it. I wasn't sure to go brighter or not, may try and touch some white on a few of the tips of them to give the light-source origin, but didn't know if I needed to do that with his eyes glowing as well (didn't want to draw the attention from his eyes too much, etc.).
I'll try that and see if it helps the effect. Appreciate the input there Shumway.
I'll try and do some more work shortly, and update with any progress before I pass out in a little bit.
Take it easy for now.
-Red__Thirst- Automatically Appended Next Post: Update before sleep. Did some more work behind the head on the Psychic hood, pleased with the result. Cleaned up some of the OSL around the hood, and on the right shoulder inward portion where the OSL is reflecting. Will do some final touch up work there later. Also went ahead and got the armor basic highlighted and prepped for more detail work to come. Overall, pretty happy with the results of tonight's painting. Less progress than I wanted, but better than none to be sure. Some forward progress is better than none for sure.
Updated pictures:
Thanks for looking and hopefully this looks a little better/cleaner with some touchup work done on the head and hood area.
Appreciate any and all feedback once more. Thanks everyone and I'll catch ya in a few hours once I've had a chance to sleep.
Take it easy for now.

Yes, I agree, on other portions of the model where there is no more painting to be done, I am waiting for sure. Such as the Force Axe, as well as the runes, but the head area was a good test bed that I could use OSL to try it out first before tackling the rest of the miniature.
As I said, this is my first time ever attempting any kind of OSL technique, for both the psychic hood, as well as the glowing eyes, and I wanted to get some feedback on the placement of the light as it 'shines' from the source of the light, as well as get general feedback on how the effect looks compared to some who might have a touch more knowledge and experience using this kind of technique. The discussion on whether or not the head would block the light or not earlier in the thread is a perfect example of something I wasn't sure about and got some insight on that, which I greatly appreciate.
Hoping for some more input and feedback in the near future, and thanks again everyone for looking.
Take it easy.

I know its not realistic, but for glowing eyes, its kinda a guilty pleasure of mine to also highlight the upper parts of the eyes too (eyebrows in laimens terms I guess), It looks like a kinda KAMEHAMEHA feel, like the librarian just cast iron arm and feels a rush of power.
Best of luck, and happy wargaming!

Progress update on the Librarian. Base is still WIP, and I have yet to start on the axe head as yet, but beyond that, the other parts of the mini are very close to, if not fully finished.
I've expanded the OSL a little, and also done the glowing runes on his Terminator armor. I'm very pleased with how they turned out (I didn't OSL the runes and area around them, as I didn't want them to draw attention away from the Psychic hood effect, and wanted that light to be very bright by comparison).
Would love some feedback on the progress so far, as I am wanting this mini to be a learning benchmark for me so I can continue to grow and improve my painting ability as I continue to work on my Imperial Guard, and begin the process of building and painting my Knight Gallant model soon.
Without further ado, here's the updated Librarian photos. More will be coming soon as soon as I make more progress.
Thanks for looking and for any and all feedback folks care to share. See y'all at next update!
Take it easy.

I see a problem with the top of the head.
The top of the head is really too high to be catching light from the source behind it.
MB Automatically Appended Next Post: And if the source is above it, then the top of the head needs to be MUCH brighter (lighter in color).

I appreciate the input, I'll try and brighten the effect on and back and top of his head since the 'veins' in the back of the psychic hood are the source of the light/energy coming from behind, back-lighting it.
Beyond that, any other critiques? I've managed to (mostly) finish off the base, and do a few more minor touch-ups here and there. Will post updated pictures when I get more progress made on the force axe, which is the last part of the mini that will be painted prior to completion.
Thanks again for the feedback and thoughts offered, everyone. Looking forward to showing the final product soon.

Update: Base is finished for the most part, some touch-ups completed, here's the progress at present:
(The back of the left lower leg has been cleaned up since this picture was taken, rest assured.)
Now all that's left is to finish off the Force Axe, and correct any other blemishes with minor touch-up work, and the mini is finished!
Thanks for looking, take it easy.
